Is Sheldon having a change of heart?

Just thought I would share a meeting I had with a marketing group who later in the meeting claimed to represent the Sands corp. I asked Susan who later contacted me for what my choice for a meal at Nick and Stef's, (I chose the steak) how many people would be involved, Susan said only six. We were all passed players of Palazzo/Venetian. Conversation was all about what we wanted from a casino to keep us coming back. Bottom line, at the end of the meeting and we all agreed what we wanted was a free room and money in return for our patronage....

Oh, they upped the cash to $250, which was greatly appreciated!

We'll see what decision Mr. Adelson makes when it comes to average players...

I myself have moved to MGM Mlife and am very happy. Others in the group went to the Wynn, Harrah's and Ceasars group.

Dear Timothy,

We are conducting a study in Los Angeles to gather perspectives of Las Vegas aficionados to help improve the experience in the casinos, at the shows, and along The Strip. As a preferred guest at selected Las Vegas resorts and casinos, your experiences and opinions are of great interest to us.

To better understand thoughts and perspectives on the Vegas experience, we would like to consider you as a participant for one of our two dinner group discussions to be held:

South Bay Area:
Matisse Restaurant, Manhattan Beach (near the 405)
Wednesday, January 30th - 6:30 - 9 p.m.

Downtown Los Angeles:
Nick + Stef's Steakhouse, Downtown
Thursday, January 31st - 6:30 - 9 p.m.

Participants generally find these to be a very interesting and enjoyable evening. A lovely dinner will be provided for attendees and in return for your participation you will be compensated $150 for your time. We will also be selecting a member from the study to participate in an in-home interview within the following few days, and $100 will be given for their participation. Your feedback and responses will be used for research purposes only.

If you are willing to to be considered to join us and others with similar interests for this dinner discussion and receive $150, please call or email Susan Thornhill or [email protected] with your contact information and the best time to reach you.

Susan will give you a call to provide more details, to ask a few questions to ensure you qualify and to determine the appropriate venue for you. There will be a limited number of participants for this study so we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you in advance for you interest.

I wouldn't have thought free room and cash would be what you wanted. My wife and I barely made Platinum at Total Rewards and we enjoy the "things that money can't buy" perks. Things like private trips, parties, golf, receptions, dinners, and express lines and dining arrangements would appeal to me.

Not so sure Susan would want her phone number published on here.
Not sure exactly what the change is winwin? I consider myself an average player (barely make Grazie Gold level annually) and I always stay at Palazzo, over a handful of visits each year. Free rooms and Freeplay are standard for me every trip, as well as throw ins like meals, show tickets, etc.
Having been pushed out in 2011 and moving down to the other end of the block I have not been back since. Maybe I wasn't the average player I thought I was.... But I do have a gold card with MGM and do get rooms at Mandalay, The Hotel, MGM and NYNY.

I am Gold, too, at Caesars. I get offers but not in the Augustus or Octopus towers. Sometimes there is a fee for Paris.
In the two times we stayed at the Wynn/Encore, I thought I gave them plenty of action, and I'm kind of surprised that the only offers that I've gotten from them are all just reduced room rates. I got freebies before I ever started playing there.
Since when did Mr. Adelson become concerned when it comes to average players?

My how time have changed
I did not know that Sheldon had a heart.
OK, I know several folks have read about what happened to me, but it bears retelling. In 2007, 2008, and 2009, I gave venetian/Palazo lots of play. I pretty much made gold in one 3 day visit each year.

In 2010, I don't know why, I didn't stay there once. I think I played for just a little while one trip passing through the casino. My offers usually included 3 to 4 nights and $250-$300 free play. I was tempted at the end of 2010 to take an offer that included $400 free play and a $100 dining credit. but I didn't.

Late in 2010 I started reading about how people weren't getting offers that included free play for 2011. I noticed that I hadn't gotten anything in the mail for 2011 at all. Early in 2011, like right after New Years, I received an email from a host. I used to have an executive host there. I think she is still there, because I am on her mailing list for holiday cards and such. Anyway, I got an offer for just a comped room, no free play no dining credit, just the room. I decided to take it, and booked Palazzo for a Thursday thrugh Sunday stay in February. That Friday was my birthday, btw

Towards the end of January, I started reading about people who had comped stays booked for Super Bowl weekend that had been contacted and told they could no longer stay comped. I figured it was something about superbowl weekend and while I muttered under my breath about V/P being greedy and taking advantage of a busy weekend, I still thought my comp was safe.

Still, on Monday, the 7th, I called my host and confirmed that I was booked for a 3 night comped stay at Palazzo from the 10th through the 13th. On Wednesday, the 9th, I left work a little early and was packing, when I hear the phone ring at about 5PM central time. I check the caller ID and the call is from the Venetian! crap! My host that I had just spoken to 2 days ago, left a voice mail telling me that my room was no longer comped, but I was welcome to pay the casino rate.

within seconds I was on Caesars.com, booking a room at Caesars. one day in advance. over a weekend. I called him back and basically told this guy what he could do with his casino rate. I am surprised they didn't try to charge me a cancellation fee.

The only time I have set foot on Sands property since was breakfast at Bouchon. You don't have to walk through the casino to go to Bouchon.

Early in 2012 I started getting mail from Venetian/Palazzo that starts out "you haven't stayed with us in a while" Gee I wonder why? The most recent one I have seen included $225 in free play and $50 dining credit. I am tempted to call and ask them how I know they won't do the same thing again.
You know there was a time when you could get $20 a day for three days in a row free play for just walking in the place. I did it a couple times just for their free play cuz I would still have breakfast at Grand Lux. But it got to the point it was most times out of my way just to get the free play, so I stopped doing it.

I guess it was a way of tracking you when you were in town and if you would be willing to stop in if they flipped you a twenty trying to get some of your own money. I have never played there since. Seems there's plenty of other places still willing to give a comped room....
