And that would be a good result?
The United States chose the winner of the Iraq / Iran war. Its made a huge difference in peace in the region, hasn't it?
I've never said I don't want a military that's no longer up to standards in technology, equipment, or manpower. Our country currently spends multiples more on all of those fronts than the next 100 countries combined. I do take issue with that....but mostly I take issue with intervention around the globe in affairs I would argue are not our concern.
Hoops is free to disagree and continue to pretend he is a small government conservative while simultaneously cheering for the 600 billion/year military complex....and demanding we referee conflicts on the other side of the globe. You just might want to get off that whole "small government" bullshit you're always preaching. The programs you support cause much bigger deficts than food stamps.
Which President raised the national debt by almost $10 trillion?
Now that I have your attention, the military spending typically comes in 10 year cycles, democrats decimate the force and the republicans have to spend to rebuild them. If some of your idiots in DC could freaking figure out that its cheaper to keep what you have, then to keep throwing folks out, only to re-fill the positions a decade later.
Carter had an economy that was crap with interest rates in double digits and not to mention high inflation. The current economy is stagnate with a small growth thanks to Obama's "lead from behind" strategy. (how one leads from behind is a mystery) (unless its anal sex, then he who is upright is leading from behind)
