Is Vegas becoming too much of a ........

The new year starts and I see it is still business as usual. The miscalculated rant by Roadtrip is just another example of the moronic questions raised concerning his perception of the amount of police that will be on hand during New Years Eve. Apparently he has no problem with the "expected street party "normal" behavior of "ralphing"in the street, relieving oneself behind bushes, "flashing" for beads, etc. I, for one, have no problem with the presence of law enforcement officers. It seems the ones who have a "problem" are the law breakers who seem to think it is alright to be obscene just because they perceive it to be party time. I enjoy seeing these "party animals" being hauled off to jail - they deserve it and the fines they accrue for being rude, crude and obnoxious. I often wonder about those who complain about the presence of police, that is until they need the police. Then they complain "where are the police when you need them". I suggest to Roadtrip and others of his ilk to quit worrying about the presence of the police and try to act like civil human beings. Is that too much to ask?

I can also see that it is business as usual for you.
310,000 people, 3300 police and national guard = 1:10 or 1:100 Either way, I will ignore another example of bad Vegas math.

Personally, I dont believe any of the numbers.

"Crowd estimates" are usually overblown by media and sponsoring organizations. And it wouldnt surprise me if this were another "overblown" estimate.

The classic "overblown" crowd estimate was discovered by The Miami Herald about the "Calle Ocho" Cuban Celebration held in Miami's Little Havana every year. Every year the media and the community leaders say "one million were on hand." They continued to do that till an enterprising reporter from the Miami Herald went to the Calle Ocho party site, simply measured the available real estate (sidewalks, closed streets and length of route) and determined using simple math that if there were one person per square foot it would be impossible for more than about 200,000 to be there.

the other "bad math" for Vegas is the average "gambling budget" of Vegas visitors. The Las Vegas Visitors Buro (whatever its official name is) gets it number of $500 by interviewing arriving passengers and asking them "what is your budget." But Vegas Gaming Author Victor Royer has written that his own research shows that once the "arriving budget" of $500 is blown, the average player/couple will hit the ATMs and go through $3600 per visit.

The other bad math is the claim that the casinos dont make a profit on the odds bet at craps... oops.... wrong thread. LOL
If you are that worried about pickpockets in large crowds like on NYE, just carry enough cash for the night and your ID. Leave your wallet, purse, etc at home or locked in your hotel room.

Problem solved

Adults, like visitors to Las Vegas, should act like adults and not drunk idiots. If you drink alcohol or do other mind altering things expect the consequences.

Las Vegas doesn't want the bad publicty from many arrests and bad behavior.

In my experience it is as safe as most US cities. In the casinos more so due to many cameras and the security watching the patrons from above.

Have a great trip to Las Vegas and much fun as well!

snidely333- and I see business as usual for you.
dont ask me how this happened, but the last time I was at caesars for NYE about a dozen big flat screen TVs left the rooms on the property. yes, they were smuggled out in luggage and packages, security believes.

I cant imagine a guest giving the bellhop an extra $5 to add the big screen to the luggage cart.
