its been awhile

hi all, i used to be on here quite some time ago and now i have decided to make a solo trip to las vegas. i will be coming 12/16 thru 12/19 2012 . i understand this is a fairly dead week there and i would like to know the pros and cons of coming that week and also on average how the weather is that week ( has to be better than buffalo, n.y ) i am looking at maybe the tropicana as a place to stay.
It is probably the deadest time in Vegas all year. The rodeo in early December is over, and the crowds don't start flowing in until after Christmas.

There is usually no inclimate weather, but it is chilly in the mornings.

All of the Christmas decorations are up and everything looks beautiful in the nicer hotels.

The Tropicana has remodeled and looks nice, but it still looks old and small compared to the other casinos near it.

The topless swimming pools are all closed by December.

Many Las Vegas Shows are "dark" during the interval which pepsiguy711 has chosen.

Otherwise, IT'S VEGAS, BABY !
Welcome back pepsiguy.

I go every December just before Christmas. It's a great time to be in Vegas. Temperature has ranged from high thirties at night to high fifties daytime. I don't make reservations until sometime in Fall...There's always some great deals.
A lot of the nicer restaurants will close for a week or so in December. Some of the shows will be dark

As for the Tropicana, I stayed there for 2 nights in April and was wildly impressed with the remodel. I enjoy the casino post remodel as well and would definitely stay there again. To give you my point of reference, I was a regular at Palazzo for the first couple of years it was open and now I almost always stay at Caesars. Of course the rooms at Caesars are much nicer, but I was almost as comfortable at the Trop.

oh im sorry, i actually meant to say the flamingo, not tropicana. i actually had a cruise booked for that week but it turns out that i am going to california in oct to see my new granddaughter so affording a 7 day cruise and a week in california so close together just wasnt happening so i opted for 3 or 4 days in vegas instead.
well, if you stay at the Flamingo, make sure you get a GO room, or the new FAB room at the very least.

If you make hotel reservations directly with the hotel, you can cancel them and rebook all the way up to a couple of days before your trip....so you can keep shoping for deals. If you book a package deal, you can't do that. I always boof the flight and hotel separately. There's a whole host of variables that go into the airline ticket pricing.
