DonDiego's been thinkin' 'bout that for some time already.
With the acquisition of the lot next door the DD Tomato Ranch has expanded rather dramatically, . . . from a single bed a bit over 60 sq.ft. and a few large pots on the patio to 3 beds totalling over 300 sq.ft.
DonDiego's got bird-feeders out behind the sunroom, with lots of winged-customers already this year; they've not bothered the garden before. He understands that squirrels typically steal seeds from feeders, but these heh' Appalachian squirrels haven't figured that out yet; they just feed on what's fallen to the ground.
The only critters which have bothered plants in the past have been bunnies and chipmunks; they'd nibble the new sprouts to the ground before they'd've grown 3-inches. He'll drape a net over the small oval bed to keep them out.
DonDiego'll be putting radish seeds, carrot seeds, and lettuce seeds in the original small bed soon.
He's got most of the tomato plants and pepper plants ordered already; and he's got a few hot-hot pepper plants germinating in the sunroom including the infamous one-time-world's hottest, the bhut jolokia registering at roughly 1-million-Scoville-Units, . . . a jalapeno is around 2-thousand.
The big beds'll be for the 'maters, peppers, squash, 'taters, . . . and somethin' else for some color, like sunflowers or some other annuals.
Deer haven't been a problem either, but a momma white-tail with two young 'uns has been crossing over the new lot already, . . . so's DonDiego'll try some Liquid Fence repellent to start, . . . and fencing later if necessary. He'll start keeping an eye on the turkeys that come by, sometimes in pretty big herds, too.
They'll be plenty for teechur and DonDiego, and the neighbors, . . . and the Church, . . . and anybody who happens to drop in, . . . 'less'n society collapses sooner than DonDiego opines. Then it'll be every man f'r hisself.
