Just Brakes - What A Scam

Called around to get prices for a brake job. Best price I found from a mechanic was $189/axle. So I figured I'd try Just Brakes $99 for all four wheels.

I figured I'd get upsold, but I wasn't prepared for the final price. Nearly $1,100!

They wanted to replace every piece of the brakes behind the wheel, bearings, springs, cylinder on one wheel which was "sticking". Granted $189 of the final price was for new rear seals so the brake job was JUST a little over $900 and they were only replacing one rotor.

Oh and that rotor, $122, while the cheapest at Autozone is $45 and the most expensive is $69. And Autozone is making a profit at these prices. Now Ford original equipment is $180, so maybe $122 isn't all that bad.

Has anyone here actually gotten a $99 brake job from Just Brakes?

Sorry for the rant.
No but I asked my future son-in-law, who used to work in autobody repair here in Dallas, about them and he said they are pretty much rip-off artists
My son who works for Firestone does mine. I pay him to do them at home so he gets all the profit.
My mechanic husband agrees.
Wrosie, if you want to PM me your zip code, Scott will look on his tech site for a good reliable shop for your brake job.

Considering you probably only need $50 in pads...
brake tip. I'm not a mechanic but i have a pretty good working knowledge of cars. I used to do almost everything myself including brakes.I also have several freinds who are mechanics. I noticed you only got one new rotor. Could end up being huge mistake. All of my freind mech.s have always said when doing brakes,ALWAYS do in pairs. Same with tires, calipers, whatever, but always do both.
$122 for a rotor doesn't seem that far out there,i'm sure 69 sounds a lot better to ya tho.Sorry you got upsold like that,i know it pisses me off when that happens to me.

oh no, ijust reread your post and saw that only replaced one brake cylinder. I know for a fact the other needs to be replaced. You now have one cylinder that is "stronger" than the other, only a matter of time before the other one goes.
Brake pads are relatively cheap. It is better to replace too soon than too late.

That being said I had a 300 ZX in my days of not keeping things well maintained. I had metal touching metal when I applied my brakes. The good old folks at Goodyear quoted me $1,200 for the job. I almost fainted. That was a lot of money back then. I told them I couldn't afford that and when he believed me he started adjusting the price. Right there and then I knew he was taking me for a ride. I told him to put the tires back on and I would find some other place. He didn't allow me to drive off the lot but I had to push the car off. I found a brake shop that charged $500. He told me he got semi's in there and that my brakes, no matter how bad, wouldn't begin to match those. He also told me that $1,200 was a complete rip-off.

Today if you get brake pads (front or rear axle) and you haven't let them wear down too much, you can usually get the job done for around $100 to $120.
As a former cab driver, we almost always had out rotors "resurfaced" 3-4 times before having to buy a new one.

Just had new brakes put on the rear of my wifes suv. Turned the rotors replaced pads $90.00 plus tax and this was at chain tire store.
I'm really lucky. My brother does it for the cost of the parts plus one case of beer. Hopefully he waits to drink the beer until after fixing the car;-)
