Just Brakes - What A Scam

Typically, brakes, top price runs about $150 per axle. Pads start at $10 and go up from there, rotors if they need replaced run about $50 (resurfacing can be done a few times). Labor of course is a B.

$500 or less is about right for 4 brakes complete with cylinder replacement for the drum brakes. Its normally the self adjuster that won't adjust anymore, but those little cylinders have to be replaced every so often. Also, the front bearings should be repacked every time you have the brakes redone. Its super easy and super messy. (perfect job for a kid that wants to help daddy with fixing the car)

A total idiot with a Chiltons book (providing said idiot has a few tools and can follow directions) should be able to replace disk brakes in a few hours. Drums, take them somewhere and save your knuckles some blood.

Btw, this idiot can do disk brakes easy, it's those damn rear drums I can't stand.

I've tried drum brakes twice and gave up after 3 hours each time.

The hardest part of front disk brakes is getting the wheels off the car. As long as I can find my giant C-clamp and my special little piece of wood, front pads are a piece of cake.
I hate the springs on the drums. If you don't have that spring puller, say hello to some blood. I use a floor jack and take off both rear wheels, one to use as a guide for the other.

Disk brakes can be done without a C-clamp. Although it will take 3 times as long.

How do you push the piston thing back inside the caliper without a C-Clamp?

Try a board, a jack, and a car. Or, lots of boards stacked up, like a shim. Hammer handles can work as well.
