Kansas Gets Mean

Each additional withdraw is a $1 and the fees go to the bank. So in other words it is a crime to take your kid to the public pool if you're on TANF, but they force each recipient to give about $20 a month away in fees to the bank.

How in the world is that "forcing" people to pay the bank fees? Are you saying that even tho they don't want to withdraw or do so in a responsible manner they have to trot on down and w/d some bucks so the bank canget their fees?

I have to say I'm firmly in the camp that any rules/reg.s etc. that attempt to make sure that the money given people is actually used for the intnded purpose. Hell, I'll add another that always makes the left cringe...DRUG TESTS. Yep,drug testing. People who can't afford to buy their own food sure as hell shouldn't have enouugh money to buy drugs. Or is that another "myth" that there's no drug use in the lower economic class?

The bill does no such thing. It LIMITS CASH withdrawals to $25 a day. If you were using it at a grocery store to buy your damn gummy bears, you could spend the whole amount with no bank fees.

The most common use of TANF is paying rent and utility bills neither of which can be paid at a swipe machine. So if someone wants to use their TANF funds to pay their rent or utilities they are going to go to the ATM at least 18 times to make to withdraws over the course of the month. I suspect there would also be a cost in getting transportation to the ATM since you would need to go more than every other day.

You guys keep using examples that would actually fall under food stamps not TANF. The ironic thing is by keeping them from using TANF to pay rent and utilities it makes it more likely TANF will be used on things you guys deem inappropriate because your forcing them to use the cards in a retail environment.

It is a great deal for the banks and Republicans have once again found a way to line the pockets of the wealthy at the expense of the poor.

Come on Mally, just admit that you want all poor folks, regardless of their willingness to work, to be given $100,000 annually to do with whatever you like.

In contrast, I believe that those who prepared themselves for life, and then put their plan into motion with hard and thoughtful work should reap the rewards.

If malibber2 wants to support all of the freeloaders with all of his money, then go ahead. But don't tell me and millions of hard working, tax paying citizens to support those who are too lazy to work and who scam the system. Grow up mal, and face reality.

My name is tinkerbell, and I live in Never Never Land, where there aren't any problems except Capt Hook, who is only trying to make problems for everybody where there aren't problems. We all live together happily, except for Capt Hook, who keeps making up problems to cause us problems when there aren't any problems. Not really.
