Kichen design site

We're upgrading our kitchen a little bit. I'm refacing the cabinets myself( Spraying them a bright white semi-gloss) and installing some kind of tile backsplash. We're going to replace our counter top with granite and is the toughest decision as to the color of it and the tile. I was wondering if anyone has maybe done this and if there is some website that you can play around with mixing and matching top with the back splash. I know there's prob some kind of software but we really want to keep a tight budget on this and don't really want to spend a bunch of dough on some CAD thing we'll only use once.

Tank you veddy veddy muchIA.

I think when I did mine, I just used the windows draw and paint. For my money, you can't beat ceramic tile. It's kind of "old school," but it's the best solution, weighing all the factors, in my opinion.
You probably will have to take the cabinet doors off when spray painting them to eliminate any running .....
but that woun't solve the problem with the sides.

I would think that brush painting the cabinets might get better results ..... unless you are very skilled at spray painting.

BTW, Don't forget to move the cashews and candy bars to another room.

Just finished beach house kitchen, contractor suggested Home Depot. We were a little reluctant but glad we followed his advice. Turned out to be great advice.... neighbors are very envious. HD design advisors were very helpful, most items came through their store, let the contractor buy everything at his discounted price so we saved a bunch of money and now have a great kitchen.

Two coats of Kilz, two coats of paint.

I'm not a huge fan of white shiny cabinets but give that decision is already made, I recommend a black granite counter top. What color/material is the floor? You want some pop of color and that will come from either the floor or backsplash.

We did a total re-do at the last place, 9'x25' kitchen. Fun project. Our new place has a "fully amenitized" modern kitchen or recent construction, and it pales in comparison to what we were able to spec in the old place. Oh well. Anywho, not a fan of tile backsplashes. Spring for rock. Far easier to maintain. Ageless.

Hey that drawer pull looks a little fishy.

I agree about contrasting with Black Granite. Just watch some TV commercials and notice this in lots of the kitchens.

No sure what you mean by "rock". I have porcelain tile with a rustic look and some fancy tiles mixed in. Put some grout sealer on it 8 years ago and have never touched it since. It's really nice.
Thanks for all replys so far.
MrM-did you mean tile for the countertops? I did several kitchens for a guy who bought run down props and an he always wanted tile for the tops. I didn't like it at all, top reason is grout lines hold lots of us germies an they can thrive if not bleached a lot. Its' def. granite going in, thats what starte the whole process, you know the ol' 'well,we're doding this may as well o this, oh yea and that shoud get done as well" etc. etc....

I was going to spray with our sprayer but deddicided on roll and back brush, i did one and remembered how much i dont care for that at all, so am going with sanding, tack clth, brush prime coat, sand, tack cloth and rattle can spray finish. They look like factory finish and really happy with the results there( In my past life before my accident i was a contractor til 2 years ago andddd actually got into it,more like i kinda fell into it after college as a house paniter. That was ,what,25 yrs ago?).

Haven't dddecidedd yet on color, was going black at first and now leaning toward more dark brownish with 4x4 tannish tile backsplash installed on diagonal. Sort of a warm tuscany look?, saw a kitchen design thar looked similar to that an liked that. A few pics getting started-
