I like them better because they split the legs open.

I used to, but have switched back to preferring the whole ones. The whole ones are a bit more work, but you end up with one big piece of juicy crab. With the split ones I think the meat comes out small and dry.

Interesting. I had an incident at MSS, I had a plateful of crab legs and spent some time shelling the legs. After shelling the entire plate of legs I told the busboy and waiter not to take my plate away as I was going to get some butter. when I came back guess what, they took the plate away. I guess they don't understand english? guess I should have taken my plate with me so they wouldn't dump it but after that I was kind of cool about visiting the MSS seafood buffet. I never had that problem at the fremont as I think most of the servers have been in america for awhile.
I had the crab legs at the SP Oyster Bar last trip and was not impressed. Definitely a large serving but they just weren't that good. It's one of the only disappointing meals I've ever had at any SP restaurant.
Good post started by jatki back in 2011, worthy of reviving.
Sterling Brunch at Bally's has both king crab legs ad Jonah claws.

I would love to do sterling brunch. We' rarely do super high end meals ou. Seems I usually am thinking about how else we could spend the money but usually never regret it afterwards if it was a great meal then I don't mind at all.
Some years back Fremont seafood buffet had both king crab and snow crab (opelio) on the buffet line. However nowadays they only have snow crab. For informational purposes and for those who confuse the two types of crabs, just head to your local grocery store and compare the differences in prices. King crab sells for about $15/lb, whereas snow crab sells for about $8/lb

I've read reviews about it. It seems that today's Sterling Brunch isn't nearly as good as the old Sterling Brunch. They're now using little lobster tails and skimping on other high end seafood items.
Just a side note............ I went to the Fremont on a Friday night last December with my handy dandy 2 for 1 LVA coupon and found it was no good on sea food nights (Tue & Fri)....it was good a few years back

Sometimes smaller lobster tails are better than big or huge ones, all depends what species and where from.

I remember we went to Myrtle beach one year when I was a kid and my dad went out and bought like 20lbs (our family's big time shrimp eaters) of 8-10 count shrimp, from one of those guys on the side of the road. Those were the biggest shrimp I'd ever seen, then and since, the tails were as big as a small lobster tail. Anyway, that's when I realized bigger isn't always better. There wasn't a whole lot of flavor and were somewhat tough, I've had large shrimp since and it was the same thing, kinda bland and a little tough. The smaller ones are usually sweeter and more tender. Not a lobster story but just an observation.

I've been to the Sterling Brunch twice since the BLT takeover, most recently two months ago. The quality of the brunch is better than under the Bally's Steakhouse regime. The lobster are good sizes, and really all of the plated dishes have improved in my opinion.

When they first opened under BLT they were a little stingy with the caviar. You had to ask a server to bring it from the kitchen. That has all changed and now it's available for pick up. This is better than the old way where you had to ask the sushi person for a serving.

The buffet may be a little bit smaller. It's hard to tell since they've rearranged the layout. The dessert station is definitely smaller, but plenty of choices.

And the Perriet Jouet flows faster than ever. My favorite server is Hugo and he is great about not rushing you and making you feel like he wants to turnover the table. I tip him accordingly.

In addition to the Sterling Brunch, BLT Steak has given the property a infusion and modern look. Great sommelier, better environment, etc. Last I checked happy hour at the bar from 5 to 6 p.m. offered all drinks at 50% off. This includes Johnny Walker Blue.
