Las Vegas car rental rate and 20% tax

I've had to resort to using priceline for my last 2 rentals, as I never could find anything less than $40/day + fees directly from the rental car companies.
I just booked a 6 day auto rental in Chicago, and the compact car was $85, while the taxes were $102.
I used to use carrental.com and always managed great deals. Sound like I should invest in another car and rent it out.
I booked my Oct trip thru Costco back on March 3rd. Budget fullsize with a weekly rate of $174.47 (total). Have checked diligently since then and never found it for under $200.00. Paid $240 for my July trip, which was the highest I have ever paid in Vegas (well over 100 rentals there).

Fine job of locking in early.

Using Uber to get to an non-airport rental location is an option. You'll get lower fees and oftentimes lower rates.
I am in Vegas from the 24th of December till January 4th - so far the cheapest car I have gotten is $601 Canadian - crazy. Thanks almost 3x more than I have ever paid for two weeks. Maybe its the time of year I am going. I will check Costco.

Your currency has really taken a beating the last couple of years so it's a double whammy for you.

If you rent offsite from the airport car rental facility, you can return your car to the car rental facility and save on most of the taxes. I did this in Sept/Oct (a two week rental) and paid $265, all in. Just take a cab to the offsite location and return your car at the car rental facility. My total in taxes was $40, cab fare $12 plus tip. I will be renting all of my cars this way in the future.
I've never rented outside of the airport, but for many years I did check off site pricing. Must be my timing, but in checking for approximately 15-20 trips, I never once found a better price. Taxes may have been less, but the total price was not. I finally stopped checking at all. I've had very good luck with third party rental offers. The best pricing is usually at someone like Payless or E-Z, but I've had no service problems.

Good Luck!
