my first trip to LV was in 1991. Stayed at Maxim (now Westin) in a room right out of the 70's - red walls, round bed with mirror on the ceiling, round tiled shower, curved couch.
Went to handicap horses and play craps with my boss (a thinly veiled bookie here in Dallas). We spent days in the Hilton SB and nights at Maxim and Excal (brand new) playing craps (martingale system, dark side).
At the end of the week, he gave me my share of the take, which was $500, so he made at least $25,000 that week - a nice take for one week back then (I was in my 20s). I didn't spend a penny while in Vegas - and I didn't play anything other than what the boss staked me on. I had one afternoon off and walked around Ballys, Barbary Coast, Flamingo and Caesar's. The Dunes was closed but they hadn't imploded it yet. I've been back every year, sometimes four or five times a year, and I guess we get jaded by the look of "new Vegas".
Strange to see it without the Strat or those huge towers at Caesars, Treasure Island, Venetian or MGM.
