Laughlin, Bullhead City

Summer homes in AZ. . .
Pinetop, Lakeside, Alpine, Show Low, Payson, Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff or many of the communities along the rim.

OP may also wish to look at Casa Grande for their winter home.
Thanks everyone.

We really liked Prescott, Verde Valley and that is our second choice. Vegas is a great place to visit but I couldn't live there...My husband would lose our house......

Being far enough away really isn't an issue but we just want a place to be comfortable. We may have to direct our look to Cave Creek, Prescott, Verde Valley areas. We like the idea of being close to Flagstaff..

Would appreciate any more suggestions.

Thanks
If you stay just below the rim -- think Payson -- you get the advantage of a bit of higher country summertime cooling but without the wintertime of the 7000-foot+ communities like ShowLow and Flag. (ShowLow is a great little area, btw, particularly as you nudge out northward toward the high-desert plains.)

Agree totally on not living in Vegas, and it has nothing to do with losing the house. lol

Good luck.

Lisa and friedmush are good eggs, and Greater Phoenicians, so use them as sounding boards. We don't live in AZ but I've spent more time there over the years than anyplace that wasn't home, and we're always beating around relocating there, so I'd be glad to share whatever expertise or insights we've gleaned over the past three decades of visitation.
Hi Karen - You can visit our virtual real estate magazine which covers Bullhead City and Laughlin. https://aroundtheriver.com Around The River

Are you looking for a winter home to be away from snow and cooler temperatures or somewhere different in general? Prescott is a wonderful community that IS visited by old man winter. Be prepared to deal with snow and morning temps below freezing.
Hell, for we Californians winter in Scottsdale and Tucson can bring what we think is Green Bay-like weather! lol
We found a great park, with decent rentals/sales in Prescott. I have spoken with the people there and looked at their website. We will certainly need advice and any help on the area.

You just know when something is right and I think we may be on the right track. We just want to winter out west from Oct-Nov to April-May. After living in Michigan the idea of some cold days and possible snow is a cake walk. We have weathered blizzards, power outages, frozen everything so if it gets to cold we will just go to Vegas for a few days.

Thanks all for the help.
I realize your definition of cold is different than mine. . .
I want to be sure those reading this thread not familiar with AZ realize Prescott's in a different climate zone than Phoenix.

Screw it all. Move to Vegas and try to buy another house with your winnings! Could happen you know. Not everyone loses in Vegas. Hit a MegaMillions and be set for life. Or, just settle for the WOF jackpot for smaller money that will keep you in action! If you don't gamble..you can't win!!!
If the choice is Laughlin/BHC it will be too hot in the summer. If Flagstaff, they will freeze in the winter, Flag averages a 100 inches of snow each winter. Bullhead City and Kingman both have very high crime rates, well above the national average, so that should be kept in mind. Choosing a new home is a difficult process, one that requires a great deal of research and thought. There is a great deal of information on the Web, some pretty helpful. A good place for Karicas to start more research is at the City-Data site. Each place has it's own home page with basic data, but the best info comes from the forums, where members express their opinions. Thousands of posts going back years, it would provide hours and hours of reading, searching, and research. Like every other internet forum, often the threads become pretty wild and drift off topic, but still contain a wealth of information.
