Laughlin trip

Hi everyone, I just booked a flight/ room package to Laughlin in early September. Staying at the Riverside for 3 nights.

I've never been to Laughlin so any comments, suggestions or advice is appreciated.

I'm going to try to rent a car one day and do some sight seeing around the immediate area and go visit some friends who live close by.

Once again suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance, all replies are appreciated.
Laughlin and the Riverside, are fun if you don't mind a bunch of old blue hairs. I have stayed at Riverside and it is basically "Super 8" quality. My room, in 2010, was clean but very outdated and worn.

Grab a brew and take a stroll on the Riverwalk along side the Colorado river.

You don't really need a rental car. There isn't much too see unless you go up to Las Vegas for the day. Lake Havasu is about 30 minutes south of Laughlin.

3 nights is a long time in Laughlin. I presume you can still use the pools in September so that is a bonus...but otherwise gambling is really the only activity available unless you are lucky enough to be in town for some kind of scheduled entertainment venue.

Most of the hotels in Laughlin have rooms that measure up with the downtown Vegas Hotels...think Fitzgeralds or 4-Queens. I stayed at the Aquarius this past December (one of the nicer hotels in Laughlin) and it was very basic. Nice but basic. One night was enough.
Thanks for answers so far. Three nights comes with the flight package, so I'll stay that long for sure.

Gambling is the reason I go on these trips, so I will be O.K. there.

I have a friend who now lives in Laughlin (retired) I'll try to visit with him one day.
I also have a friend who lives in Kingman Az., He works a crazy schedule so I will play that by ear.

I also would like to go see the new bridge at the dam.

I might also bop up to Vegas to have lunch with another friend who lives there.

Wondered if anyone had ever rented a car there and if so what is the best option?

This old bluehair should be right at home with others of my age.
A clean room, decent bed, and a T.V. to put me to sleep at night is all I need.

Any other responses will be appreciated.

The bluehair set doesn't arrive until closer to Thanksgiving. September is still prime river season.
One of my favorite drives anywhere is the drive from Golden Valley( some 15 miles east of Laughlin) thru Oatman and on to Golden Shores on the old Route 66. Drive time is not much more than an hour, but you should leave yourself some time to stop off in Oatman.
I recently went well out of my way to go over the bridge at Hoover Dam and it was most disappointing. Walls are so high you can't even spot the river.
I've never stayed at the Riverside but have played there a time or two. I prefer the Trop Xpress, which is great for their mailings.
Edgewater has a great buffet.
There are a couple of cruises you can take up and down the Colorado for an hour or two. Nothing special, but you will come away with an admiration of Don Laughlin and his dream by listening to the narrative of how he grew the town from a single eight room hotel in 1967 to what it is today..
Grapevine Canyon is about three miles north of town and has some ancient rock drawings if you appreciate that sort of thing.
Riverside has a wet T shirt contests on Thursday.
If you like a good non-casino gin mill, The Hideout- located atop a strip mall opposite The Pioneer can't be beat.
As far as car options go- the only place I know of in Laughlin is at the Tropicana, but you can rent them across the river at the Bullhead City Airport. I'd imagine they have a shuttle.
Thanks Billyran and everyone else for the info.

all options are on the table and still open.

It just dawned on me that this trip will happen over Labor day weekend so there may be many other things going on.
Something free to do at the Riverside is to go upstairs " I'm thinking 2nd floor " and walk through the car and motorcycle's displayed there , probably about 50 or so on hand.
I did rent a car for a couple of days at the Tropicana Express last year. Took my hubby down to a golf course and his tee off time was 6:04 am. I ended up going across to the
Avi Indian Casino while he played. There is a restaurant in I think it's the Riverside???? on the 2nd floor which has a great prime rib dinner. Check around I'm sure someone can
give you the proper name of the casino with that dinner. There also is good shopping over the bridge in Bullhead. Hope you enjoy your visit there and win a bundle.

I've only rented from the airport location. It was usually a "middle day or two" of the trip when I drove to Vegas, and all you have to do is go to the bell desk (at the Riverside) and tell them you need a shuttle to go to the airport. Its free and about a 2 minute ride.
