LV Hilton - What's up?

I read in the business news that the LV Hilton is in court with their lender about who will control the property. I know that at the end of the year, their contract with Hilton Hotels is up and they lose the Hilton name.

I am scheduled to stay there 11/10 - 11/14 and sure do hope they will still be open at that time.

Has anyone stayed there recently? Is the place still up to Hilton standards or has it fallen into disrepair?
A co-worker stayed there just last week (10/10-10/13). I hope your stay is better than his was.
FWIW, he was very disappointed with the property overall - from the lack of cleanliness, to the worn out carpets, to a "funky" smell (his word!). The staff seemed to mostly have poor attitudes - check in staff was rude and slow, restaurant staff about the same. Housekeeping routinely left only one set of towels in the room, despite there obviously being two people staying there, and despite him calling them each day for a second set. He said the casino was nearly empty all 3 nights he was there - no surprise to him! He headed elsewhere to spend his time in the evenings and said he won't stay there again.
FWIW, I stayed at Binions during its final week. It was very odd because there were workers there boarding things up. And, yes, service with a smile was not forthcoming from the soon to be unemployed. But it was a memorable experience.

The solution is to simply make an alternative reservation(s). I doubt Las Vegas is overbooked. Both the Trop and the Plaza have been newly remodeled. That might be interesting.

The LV Hilton has always been popular among the Rodeo Week crowd. It will be interesting to see how that goes this year.

That's not as easy as it sounds. Those dates are Veterans Day weekend, as well as 11/11/11, and hotel rates are already sky high, as someone else reported, with low availability.

My plan B for busy weekends or emergencies: Travelocity, etc. E.g. the Gold Spike, which was remodelled a couple years ago, comes up at $52, and Silverton comes up at $74.

My plan C: use the travel points from my credit card to book a room at a nationwide hotel chain, e.g. Candlewood Suites.

My plan D: rent someone else's timeshare, for example:

Was at the Hilton buffet and casino couple weeks ago.
Didn't stay there.
Buffet staff were sweet as they could be.
Casino, did well playing an hour on a bank of progressive VP machines.
Didn't interact that much with casino staff, but the few I saw were nice.
It has old casino ambiance if you like that.
A very lively crowd that night.
I forgot to mention in my original post that this will be the fourth year in a row that I will be taking advantage of a Casino Marketing department special for my stay. The special allows me to stay for 4 nights for a total of $139 + tax ($156 total).

I was told that since I am also a HHonors Gold member, this year I get upgraded to a 'Grand' room for free, as well as get free internet and breakfast.

So the deal I am getting is a great one in my opinion. I prefer the off strip location, since the bulk of my time in town will be over at Nellis AFB for the Aviation Nation air show. Being off strip, I can more easily drive around and not get caught up in the heavy traffic of the strip. Also the parking deck of the Hilton is very close to the North Tower entrance and elevator, where the Grand rooms are located. That means shorter walk between the car and the room.

I've been visiting Las Vegas for over 30 years. The city has lost the lustre that it once had for me. It used to be a place where I stood a decent chance of winning at the casinos and could get excellant meals for value prices. Today because of high minimum bets and super tight slots, I expect to loose my gambling budget very quickly. What used to last for days of gambling now only lasts for minutes, maybe hours if I hit it right. There is nothing special about the Shows in Vegas anymore that you can't see in a Youtube or Hulu video. And my age group really isn't interested in Clubbing or waking up with a Hangover experience. Guess I have just outgrown the city and only visit for other aspects.

The thing I think would bring the city back would be if they would legalize brothels in Clark County and a couple of Brothel themed hotels would open up. Imagine the business places like the Riveria, Hooters Hotel, and the Imperial Palace would get if they had certain "brothel" floors where you room came equipped with someone to service all your needs.
I got one of those deals for $139 in the mail today. Started to do it even though we've already paid for Mandalay Bay just to get the $100 in food credit.

Awesome idea. You paying attention, Bags?
Sounds good to me! I wrote this on another thread, but I'll repeat it here.

I got an offer from the Hilton after giving them some dollar action in the sports book while I waited for my "proxy" to show up. It amazed me how high the jackpots were on the dollar machines. Before I met my son and proxy in the sports book, I spotted a row of machines that had the royal jackpot over $6300 or so. Well I cashed out there and met my son. His GF was playing a row of sit down dollar machines that paid over $6700, and better yet, like the Silverton, they had a back up jackpot that would pay over $5700 if the main jackpot was hit. Anyway, I started playing those machines with her and I noticed she didn't have a cad inserted. I had just joined the "new" players club, and I always ask for two cards as Faye usually would be playing with me. Si I gave the card to her and we played side by side, racking up the points. Anyway, they just sent me a postcard offer for 3 nights comped, as well as two ticket and transportation to the Thomas and Mack arena to see the NFR. They also threw in two tickets to see Dwight Yokum, as well as Jack Daniels and Boot Barn specials, a custom jewelry giveaway, Coca Cola photo booth, a tee shirt giveaway, as well as a Jackpot Bonus and Prize Cube promotion.

If you have one of their players cards, and since I won't be there, call 800-457-3307 ask representative for NFR 2011. better than paying $139 a night. If it fits into your schedule give it a try. Tell them BAGIANT sent you!
