Madcat question of the month... I know I been out of the net for awhile....

When on my R and R trip in Vegas, hubby and I found out it was the Silverton's 14th Birthday.

At approximately 2 PM, they would hand out free t-shirts and a cupcake (carrotcake w/cream cheese frosting) pretty yummy.

Hub and I stood in a HUGE line. The line had formed about 45 minutes prior and kept growing.

Question: Why do these freebies attract us? And what is the longest you have waited for a prize, cake or anything?

Funny thing- the next day we saw free Silverton shirts at Sam's town, Southpoint and the M casino.
People were wearing them immediately-- and even though they are ugly-- MAN they are comfortable!!!!
"Question: Why do these freebies attract us? And what is the longest you have waited for a prize, cake or anything?"

A)- The price: Free

B)- Virtually any line I get into there's a wait. At the bank I'll pick the shortest line and the person in front will ask if they could have a record of all her checks they've written for the last 2 years or something time consuming. At the grocery or department store you can count on a person in front of me always needing a price check.<<<It even happens a the $1 store....lol. I've had clerks do a shift change while I'm standing there ready to be checked out. I know what they're saying..."Oh, it's him. He can wait."

Moral to the story: If you see me in line do yourself a favor and get in another line. You can thank me later.

JM2300- you are a riot!!!!
I stopped waiting in line for much of anything a few years ago.
Never worth it, to me.

JM2300, seems your a relative of a guy named Murphy.
I dont do lines at all, especially resterants unless its only 10 or 15 minutes. I dont think ive ever had the oppertunity to wait and get something free, but i probably wouldn't do it. Thats just me.

Then you for sure don't want any slot tourney invites. It's waiting in line to register. Then waiting 15 mins to 1/2 hr when it's your turn, waiting in line for any freebies (food and/or gifts) and waiting to see who won.

What is your average wait time for Tourneys Chipchik???

What is the longest you had to invest in any excursion of this type??
I was at a slot tourney a few weeks ago at Dover Downs.
The reg line was 30 mins+. The dinner line hardly moved after 20 mins and 100 in front of me so I left. The we had to be there 30 mins before our play time, got there and they screwed things up by letting people play who missed their time. So I had to wait and additional 30 mins before I could play. Then they wanted you back a gew hours later to announce the winners and that was another hour wait.

That is about the norm as far as I have experienced.
As far as waiting in line for a freebie, I am sure I have, just can't think of any right now.
I used to wait in line for an hour for a 3 min roller coaster ride. No more.
