We woke up this morning from too much wine cheer. Moved a little slow, but got it going as we needed to get to the house to change clothes and pack a new bag for the new hotel (Flamingo).
Hubby and I got dressed up today, thought it would be nice to clean up and go to Sunday Brunch. I begged to see some live music and heard that the Wynn had a Jazz Brunch, however the price tag was just a little too steep at 60 dollars to only give one glass of champagne….so we found another option that was more than what we were looking for. Envy Steakhouse has a real champagne (not sparkling wine or rot gut wine) brunch. We made a reservation on restaurant.com for 11AM opening time. When we got there at 10 minutes until 11, there were some people standing around. By almost 10 AFTER 11, many people were standing around… for they were not open yet and this was making a lot of people anxious. The hostess kept getting on the phone and the staff seemed to be in no hurry to open up. Finally the hostess calls out our name, party of 2 and we get seated first. I could tell people were put out, but we did have a reservation. Our waiter was terrific. We told him this was our first time at this brunch and he explained they had a Bloody Mary bar and Champagne or mimosa. Well, you must know our choice by now, but I will say that Bloody Mary Bar looked sublime! Hubby went immediately up to the carbs and meats. I on the other hand spied the seafood, namely the king crab legs and giant shrimp and oysters on the half shell. I filled up with these delights, along with some fancy cheeses, finger sandwiches and this carved roast beef. Hubby got some pancakes that he states to be very high on the list of some of the best, along with bacon, sausage and some breakfast potatoes. The music started up and cloud 9 drifted by. I think we drank up to 5 or 6 glasses of bubbly and were even offered more, but we knew we had to stop. I finished with Huge chocolate dipped strawberries and a few finger deserts while hubby decided to make the roast beef his dessert. It was really good for only 29.95. If you have not tried it- you must!!
Clearly no driving was about to occur so we caught a cab and took it to Flamingo. I sashayed into the Flamingo Platinum check in desk, clearly feeling no pain as I asked if I could please get a complimentary upgrade because I was on R and R from Iraq. She said, “wait just a minute,” came back and told me she had upgraded us to a GO room. Never been in one, so was pleased since these rooms were all comped anyway. Hubby gave her 20 dollars and she seemed to be pleased as punch. We got our keys and went upstairs. The room was really modern and fun. We freshened up and decided to go downstairs and try our luck. In the front of Flamingo there is this community fishing game- has been around for quite some time. The Hangover slots were full everywhere we went so we were not getting on those anytime soon. Hubby and I went to the fishing round a couple of times and made some pretty good money. We decided to leave while we were up 60-70 dollars. We walked to O’Sheas to try this magic Frozen Baileys that we have been reading about on here. I know, like we needed more alcohol! Anyway- those are about as tasty as can be…especially when it is so hot outside. We went over to Ceasars and got on the Green Hot Shot machines and played various games until about 4 PM. We did pretty well over there. Time was flying by and we noticed that it was getting close to dinner. We had planned to get to the Stack happy hour and eat something small before our Barry Manilow concert at Paris. We walked over to Mirage and saw no signs for the happy hour. We asked, and they said they had discontinued it. We then went next to Japonaise and asked the same question since it was on the menu outside. They also said that is not happening anymore. DRAT! Vegas clearly needs no gimmicks anymore to get people to eat. I then remembered that I had researched a possible happy hour at ISLA in Treasure Island. If for some reason they did not have one, we would return to the Mirage and just pick a place. ISLA did have a happy hour. I ordered a glass of wine and Hubby ordered a beer. We both ordered the Mini Nachos. Perfect amount of food and really REALLY GOOD! We left with the notion of returning someday to get that again. We got to Paris and played a bit before going into the show. The show was just great. We saw Barry at the Hilton a couple of years ago and this is a completely different show. His voice is as good as ever and that particular venue is way better than the Hilton. After the show, we were pooped so we went up to get some rest. I knew I only had only 5 days left, so I elected to get SOME rest or what is the point of R and R (rest and recuperation)? We could not get the curtains to close in the room…so hubby took his nice slacks and filled the gap to get the room dark. It was not until a few days later that hubby found the curtain button on the wall… HA HA HA!! And the maid kept the pants up there the whole time. Gotta love Vegas!!!!
Woke up an it is Monday July 18th- only 5 days left—where is the time going? Today we decided to get a comp room at the Orleans. Hub and I like to gamble at Orleans, especially at the bar where we play Keno and poker and the bartenders treat us really nice. We got dressed and headed over there early to avoid crowds to check in. We decided to go downtown today, for we wanted to catch a free Gordie Brown show and we wanted to eat at 777 Brewpub inside of the Mainstreet Casino and we had a couple of coupons from ACG to play at El Cortez and the Golden Gate. We found out Gordie was dark for the week and on vacation, so we had no show to hit for the evening. We decided to make the best of it and just go down there anyway.
No real luck at the El Cortez, but walking in the morning was really nice. The weather was great the whole time I was in Las Vegas, it never busted over 102 at the highest point, and when you wake up to 108 and deal with 120 everyday in Middle earth (Iraq), well this weather was just wonderful! I enjoyed walking downtown, but there are so many people set up and selling stuff that it is starting to get a little cluttered. We stepped into the Golden gate and signed up with the ACG coupon. Hubby got 5 dollars in free play for joining and if he got 100 points he could get an extra 25 dollars. We played around on pennies until we hit the 100 points. I played that Ape game again- it is new and has Gorillas on it and did OK. Hub played Monopoly. We took the free play and played poker. Poker here has some great payouts, 9/6 and 10/6 in some Bonus poker cases. We played that out and decided it was time for lunch.
Went to triple 777 and noticed that if you pay with B connected points, you get 40 % off of your bill. We were pleased as punch. Hubby and I both ordered a microbrew red beer. I had the quesadilla with steak chili (you have got to try it) and hub had a flat bread pizza. Happy hour there is 3-6PM and has these things on sale for like $4.95 with 2-3 dollar drinks. Unfortunately we were only there for lunch. I do not know if they let you do happy hour and use your 40% B connected points, but if they do, then you can really eat great food for little to no use of your comps. Meal was awesome! We walked out satisfied and happy. We then drove back to Orleans to play. Our plan was to hit the Mexican place that had 99 cent margaritas and some appetizers cheap for dinner, but when we went by they were closed Mondays! Darn IT!
We decided that we wanted some music so Hub suggested going to the Gold coast to catch that afternoon act. We got there and found out there was no show on Monday. Strike 2. We then thought, let’s go to Silverton and check out that happy hour over at Twin Creeks. We could gamble another 500 points for a gas pull and then eat dinner there. We get there and find out Twin Creeks is closed on Monday. Strike 3 and we were OUT! Hubby said “What are we doing? Let’s just go back to the Orleans and eat at TGIF….” So back we went and we ordered some sliders and some pot stickers. The waitress was just great and we paid with comps. The rest of the evening we horsed around on the penny slots. Hubby played a Moon walker game that was lot of fun and we both played some Super 8 penny slots and had a lot of luck. It was time for bed before we knew it, so we decided to hit the hay.
