Madcat Vacation part IV (only one left......)

Tuesday July 19th. We went downstairs for breakfast at the café at Orleans. We had sourdough and coffee and it was really good. We paid it with comps. Decided to head home to get clothes changed out and pick up the kid for some quality time. Hub got on the computer to look for more show tickets because we still needed a show for Thursday night. We decided to get the Platters, Coasters and Marvelettes at the Rio for Thursday night. We headed over to the Pinball Hall of Fame since I have not seen it and we knew our video game loving son would dig it. I saw games I have not seen in decades; Crossbow, Joust, and TRON the original to name just a few. I got on the Joust game and got killed quick- it has just been too long. It was fun to watch my ostrich screech his feet (anyone who may remember how funny that game is.) My son got on Donkey Kong (original) so I enjoyed watching him work a joy stick rather than his little hand held device of Playstation 3 that he is an expert on. There were a series of Star Trek machines from the old series to the new and some really old pinball machines that had counters that actually rolled over manually. Really had a good time and spent about an hour there.

Next stop was lunch at Gardunos at the Palms. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas. Hubby and I split the 3 combo platter where we had a pork tamale and 2 orders of Carne Adovada. Son had Bean and cheese burrito and actually took some home in a to-go box. I guess his stomach does have a fill limit after all, that is how much they feed you there. We drove him back to the house afterwards.

Next we went back to the Flamingo to get dressed for the evening. On our way out the door we saw the Hangover slots open. Hub and I jumped on. I went straight to the bonus round and picked presents at the wedding for Jade and Stu. To hear Mr. Chow’s voice talk through the whole game is really funny. Hubby hit some big thing and we got off the machines immediately since we were like 40-50 dollars up. Those look like they can suck up your money as fast as they can pay you, so we left. Hubby then found his spinner life of luxury combo machines and he picked the Emerald again, only it was worth 50 dollars because you pick from 10 gems instead of 5. We can tell you are on the strip, because the machines are riskier to say the least. We then went to Bills to get the once 99 cent margarita that is now 2 dollars. I like these because they add some extra Sauza tequila in them and you can actually taste tequila in your cheap drink. After that, we decided to get down to the Wynn and try out that Chocolate martini some of you have raved about in this forum. We sat down at some machines when I saw a cocktail waitress approaching and started playing. Hub was on some western themed machine and was not really pleased, but I knew we had to take a seat for a cocktail or we would be waiting for awhile. I happened to sit at a Black Knight machine. This would be the second time I sat at this type of machine and get a pretty big hit on. I played one at the Silverton for a mere 20 cent spin. This was a 30 cent spin. We ordered drinks and kept playing. Hub hit the bonus round and got a couple of “Big Wins” on his Cowboy machine. Just before the chocolate delight arrived, I hit the bonus round with 7 spins and all Black Knights showed up, meaning most of the spins were going to be Big Wins! Just as I finished and collected my 70 dollars after only spending 30 cents, the drinks arrived and they were spectacular to say the least. We sipped and wandered around the casino and realized we probably better head back to get to dinner before our show.

It was time to head to the Town Square Mall and go to Brio for the $2.95 happy hour. We got there around 5:15 and it was slammed. There was no place to sit and just as we were getting ready to leave on my insistence, the best spot opened up in the whole bar area, so we sat down. We both ordered a glass of wine (not on happy hour price) and I ordered a fondue while hubby ordered the Hamburger slider. It was pretty good, but I do not know if I would return because it seems like it is more a hassle to drive that far and hope on a seat for food that is just good and not great.

After, we headed to the Tropicana because we had Gladys Knight tickets and the show started at 8PM. We had about an hour and 45 minutes to kill so we just played some penny slots. Hubby had a 3 time retrigger bonus in Enchanted and I hit the bonus once again on the Black Knight machine at the Trop. I played that particular model of machine 4 times and each time the Black Knight appeared in reels 2,3and 4….making it a sweet hit. Can you say “BIG WIN?”

We went into the show room and ordered a couple of wines. Gladys came out and sang beautifully. They told us no pictures, so I waited until final curtain call and snapped one. Got a pretty dirty look from one of the staff, but I did not disrupt the musical performance. I know this sort of activity only occurred due to cocktail courage. We left toward the Flamingo and I got a wild hair and wanted to still gamble. Hubby told me tomorrow was another day- so I took the bait and went to sleep instead. The next morning is when Hub discovered the curtain button and once again we broke into extreme laughter.

Wednesday July 20th. This was by far my FAVORITE day. We slept until 8 AM. Felt really good. Gramma and son were meeting us for the pool at Flamingo. I went downstairs and got the seats while hubby met them. The pool is nice at Flamingo in the family area, but I do not understand why they changed it? The 18 and above was too empty and the family pool was too small. Anyway, we got in and enjoyed until the waterslide opened. Son loves the waterslide and Gramma is a big fan too. At about 11AM had to tell them it was quits- they looked at me like sad puppies. We had to go to the Cosmo today and sign up to try the 100 dollar loss turns into 100 free-play. We took off after getting ready to the City center. We went through the Bellagio and took the TRAM, never had done that yet. We heard on a trip report how good Todd English Pub was so we went there for lunch. Both Hubby and I ordered the Wheat beer flight-very tasty! We also each ordered ½ pound of carved meat with bread of choice and 2 sauces. This place is pricy but worth it. I ordered the Brisket with truffle mayo and horseradish sauce on English muffin. Hubby ordered Turkey with BBQ sauce and Salsa Verdi on Sourdough. We split the breads, meats and sauces. OUTSTANDING! We also ordered one order of fat fries. I loved the meal and it was one of the most expensive we ordered. I think it is WELL worth the price- will definitely return.

We had heard about a happy hour at American Fish on this website as well and since we had Viva Elvis tickets we scouted it out for later. It was just about 2 PM and we headed to the Cosmo. We signed up for the card and tried the “lose 100 deal”. You can also get 10 dollars in free play if you do not want to lose the 100, however you have to lose the whole 100 or it is no dice.

The best way to monitor it was to start with 100 dollar bill and when it is gone, well then you are good to go. You cannot win- must lose the whole 100. Because I am a Platinum player at Harrahs they gave me the tier card equal to that one, which is cool- too bad I did not have my Diamond card anymore. The lady that helped us was very nice. Hubby told me he read a report where some people could not lose at the Bar, so I said “Let’s do it!” We sit at the bar and I order a Lemon drop Martini. It was HUGE and delish! Hubby ordered a Sav Blanc…nice to have high end stuff at a bar that is comped for a change!!

Hubby and I start playing and WE cannot lose. Finally called it quits after 2 hours. Hubby got dealt 4 aces no kicker- the kicker would have given him a 500 dollar hit rather than a 200. Alas the kicker did not come in! I then hit four 3s and was 60 dollars up. We decided to walk. I also ordered a dirty martini- best I have ever had.

Once again a happy hubby and I, feeling no pain, are walking around with cocktails with stupid grins on our face when we hear them announcing a slot tournament if you have earned 100 points. Both of us earned that so we sit down. There are 5 people in the competition, even though there are seats for like 30. I have never done one of these before but you just keep hitting the button- and when you are cocktailed, it is a little more difficult that you think it is. We get to the end and I come out 5 out of 5!

Hilarious! Hubby however won! 1st place got 50 dollars in free play. So hubby and I, laughing our butts off start finding a machine to play at. We started off with a spinner, but then we got off of it. So I saw some Airplane machines. We sit down and I say- I want to play! Hub hands me a 21.00 TITO from before and starts downloading his free play. He gets this message just as I push the button on mine (with no card inserted, mind you – in my state of mind). His message reads “Not enough for this bet.” Hub is puzzled and looks at me and says what gives and then notices it is a $1 Airplane machine. I had played 20 lines at 1 dollar- so 20 dollar spin and of course came up with nothing- and no card in. He was irritated. I busted out laughing! I reminded him how much money we won and to just chill. We finally walked out of there 300 dollars up. It was time for dinner. We went to American Fish- what a nice place -and ordered the 5 dollar apps. Warning- these are small, so do not expect a lot of food, but if you want supreme quality- this fits the bill. I ordered Sav Blanc, he ordered 4 dollar Stella Artois. He had the Prime Rib sandwich (off the chain good) and I ordered the Fois gras bites and the Truffle Mac and Cheese. Lovely food.

It was time for the show. We had row 5. The seats are HUGE- like you are in first class in a plane with this couch look. The venue was the prettiest I have seen in Las Vegas. Once again, I am not a big Circ fan, but I do love Elvis and this show was just GRAND! We had such a ball. I had a glass of wine and hub had a Blue Suede shoe frozen drink. We also had a tub of popcorn- (blame it on the al al al alcohol.) Finished the show and I was READY TO PARTY! Now hub and I are in our mid 40s so we do not go to clubs- I think we would creep out the clientele. We decided to go see the band at Ballys and they were hopping. Here is the mistake of the evening……would it be cheaper to get a bottle of wine or just order 2 glasses for the 2 drink minimum? We went bottle…not wise. Did not get sick, but did not want to get up the next day either. Hub did not want to dance, but I did. I got on the floor with a bunch of other middle-age women and danced for about an hour. Hubby had to drag me out at 12:30AM as I said “ No- apple bottom jeans and the boots with the fur” as that was the song on. We got back to Flamingo and crashed. What a GREAT DAY!!!!!!! Only 2 days remain……boo hoo…………

You may or may not know this ...
You can go back again to Cosmo and do the $100 loss until you have the losing day!
Hubby and I did this on our last rip. we won and cashed out over $120 winner each day on the 4th day I lost my $100 and went and got my freeplay. He had two more winning days, then lost his $100 and got his freeplay.
This is the best promo!
I DID not know that- I cannot believe I missed out- you guys really must have had a good time!
Hubby is still in Vegas until Aug 1- I may encourage him to go back and try to lose the 100 again. All that fun and great cocktails make it SO worth it....not to mention that fun tournament!! : )
