I thought I would wait for SIONOW to be at the tail end of his report before starting mine.
This is going to be a long report written in many parts, for I was there for 15 days. I met my grandchildren for the first time during a 3 day time frame that I will not include in the report, due to very little Vegas stuff, so I will skip some of those days in the interest of keeping you interested.
This trip is my 15 day Rest and Recuperation from Iraq. It took 27 hours of layovers and flight time from Kuwait airport, not to mention what we had to go through before to get Kuwait. I FINALLY arrived on 7 July at 6 PM. My family was at the bottom of the stairs. I zoom down the escalator in full sprint, probably knocking people aside with my rucksack to finally get my hugs. Yes it was a big scene, and many people in baggage claim were emotional about it, not even knowing me.
We get in the car as I feast my eyes on the beautiful Las Vegas background. I am speechless how much we take for granted how pretty our land really is. Hubby asks what I want to eat, so I exclaim “In and Out!” We take the food to the house where I feel tears coming into my eyes, to eat a hamburger of this quality and those beautiful fries. Hubby then asks, do you want to relax at home? After being up nearly 48 hours due to no sleeping on planes I say, “Let’s go the M.” The M is less than a mile from our house. I get dressed, still with my hair in a bun, we leave and go to the wine bar downstairs (Hostile Grape) where I get my first libation after 6 months. We have those wine cards that you can put in the machine so we got 5 ounces of Sauvignon Blanc. We went upstairs and gambled on some pennies and before you knew it, it was time for bed.
Wake the next day. Did not know where I was…blame it on the alcohol. Ate breakfast at home, and departed on whirlwind Vegas trip. Son and Grandma stay in the house, we have Hotels to make room for kids and grandkids coming in the next few days. We decided to take my son to Hooters for lunch at the Sunset Station. This was a really good Hooters. We picked up some stuff at the mall to mail to Iraq and some new shoes for the kid. Afterwards, we dropped the kid at the house.
Hubby got a room at Goldcoast for the night because it was Friday and we had other comp days already filled. It was 70 dollars a night, so we got there and checked in. Tried to use the” I am deployed and R and R” on the hotel clerk, but she did not budge so no upgrade, (even if there is one at the Goldcoast). We went downstairs where already playing was a Jazz Trio. In the afternoons at the Goldcoast, (except Monday), they have a live band. This was the Lisa Smith band, and man is she really good. The audience was elderly- and I MEAN OLD. I think 80 years plus was what we saw, out there dancing, drinking it up at 2:30 in the afternoon and just having a grand time. Hubby and I drank two Champagnes and enjoyed the music. We decided to cross the street to the Palms before dinner. We lost money VERY quickly in a small amount of time, that is just how it works some time. Played this APE game and some Life of Luxury with no luck. We had a reservation at Little Budda at 5:30PM, hence why we stayed. Hub and I both ordered glass of wine. I had Sushi and Hubby had Filet Mignon. Food was excellent and service as well. We used a Restaurant.com coupon that someone generously offered hubby in the forum. After dinner, we crossed the street to RIO. Since I have been gone, we lost our Diamond status so we are now only Platinum. No Diamond lounges were on this trip, unfortunately. We sat at our favorite POKER machines where the cocktail servers come often and dance on top of our bank of machines. We had a ball and talked with a lot of people. I love the RIO, pay tables stink, but the fun is to be had there with never an empty beverage. We went to bed around 10:30 PM.
Saturday July 9th! SO much fun had and so much more to be had. Today I had a hair appointment at the Southpoint SPA. My hair had needed attention and it had been 8 months. Southpoint offers a 20 percent off for local discount. After the appointment we decided to go check in at the Silverton. My son was along for the ride for he wanted to see some horse barrel racing at the Southpoint while the hubby and he waited on my very long hair appointment. When we got to Silverton, some boyscouts were outside selling hotdogs and chips. Since we had a reservation at 5PM at Twin Creeks steakhouse, and it was nearly 1PM, we decided to go with this option. Very cheap- 3 dollars for hotdog, chips and soda. We checked in the room and changed for the pool so the kid could get some pool time. He is 15 by the way, so when the cocktail waitresses walked by in their little outfits, he would pretend he was not looking, but he got caught several times. After about an hour and half, we had enough. My husband took the son to the house, about 2 miles away and we got ready for dinner. For anyone who had never been to Twin Creeks at the Silverton, I must say that you are missing out. For 24 dollars you can get several entrees to include Filet, fish, shrimp or chicken. With this, you get a beautiful salad or soup and two side dishes. This is a screaming deal in Las Vegas. Hub and I both ordered a glass of wine (many excellent choices by the glass to choose from). We both ordered Filet. I ordered the Mash potatoes and asparagus and hub ordered the Mash potatoes and Mac and Cheese. It was all Superb! Great service, ambience and meal. We found out at that moment they also had a happy hour on weekdays. Have to return to check that out. We spent the rest of the evening gambling at the Silverton. We played penny slots and some poker with some good luck. They had some gas can give away for 500 points where you could earn free play or some gas. Hubby won free play and so did I, but only 5 dollars worth. The room was so comfortable. Probably the best bed I slept in on this whole trip and REALLY quiet.
Next morning was Sunday the 10th. The kids and grandkids arrive today. We eat at the Sundance café. Prices are cheap, but I was disappointed with the sourdough toast and coffee. Sourdough did not have any sour and the coffee was just too weak for this pallet. Figured it was just one of those off days. We went home to get ready for the kids. I will continue this report after they leave and will pick up with shows and more excitement.
