On the few occasions where I've decided to sit and play for an unknown "longer" session, I have often requested the slot attendant to reduce the volume, and they have willingly done so. I've also asked them to reduce the volume on a neighboring machine (once vacant and loud) and never been "denied".
The casino may "want" the volume loud, but they want a body at the machine much more.
