Mandalay Bay questions

Our group has decided to give Mandalay Bay a shot for our May trip. I am not a fan of resort fees but I have no choice if we want to stay here. I have a few questions to those who have stayed here. How are the basic rooms? Has anyone tried the 20 dollar trick, and did it work? Can you get the resort fee's waived if you gamble. Any other info would be helpful.
I have stayed in a standard room 3 times. The rooms are huge with a nice bathroom. I know if you stay on a comp the resort fee is always waived but you might have a harder time unless you gamble enough for a full comp room.

I do like being on the South end of the strip and away from everything. I have never attempted the $20 trick. Any other questions feel free to ask.

I saw their rooms one time when I got my GF's boss a comp there. She was going to see Pavorati, the opera singer, who was appearing there. Since the room was comped under my name, I had to show up to sign her into the hotel. MB had just opened receently, and I found a host there that had been at the Stardust. When checked in, we went to take a look at what the rooms looked like. I was very impressed, and liked the way the beds were made up. The room also overlooked their "wave pool" which was a bonus. I wished I was staying there instead of having to give the room up to someone else.

We went back downstairs, and went to the High Limit room where the hosts had an office. We bumped into the former Stardust host, and my GF struck up a conversation with him while I decided to throw a couple of bucks into a $5 vp machine. I knew the GF would ask him for a comp, but he had to ask his supervisor. When she went to look up our "play" she saw I was playing a $5 machine, so she approved the comp right away. It might have been only for the coffee shop, but what a coffee shop it was. Absolutely delicious food.

One thing I didn't like when playing there, and I don't know if it has changed or not. But if you played at one of the bars, it was only $1 VP. At that time, we played nothing but quarters, but if we wanted a drink, you had to play dollars. So we put in twenty dollars apiece and started playing two coins at a time. Wouldn't you know it, but I wound up hitting 4 deuces for a $200 payout. That was enough for me, and we cashed out and left.

Shar has a pimp?

We stayed in a basic room in Sept. and loved it. It was a business trip for my husband, though, so not sure about the resort fee. I was disappointed with the workout room that is considered part of the resort fee. But I did find out that if you use the spa, they have much nicer workout facilities. The pool was a lot of fun, and exhausting chasing the waves. It was a fun experience, different than the other Vegas pools. I do have to say, though, the later the day went the more the kids came pouring in. We ate at Border Grill, which was yummy. The coffee shop was good as well. It was my first time staying that far down, and I missed the location of center strip. But I really did enjoy the hotel!

A friend of mine checked in about 3 weeks ago and I believe he had a standard room...I went up with him to see it. I really liked it. Separate tub and shower. Tub was not jetted, but I hate those tub/shower combos so much. Separate potty room. I was rather impressed, as I had stayed at THE Hotel before, but never at Mandalay itself

We stayed in a standard room for 7 nights November and loved the room. Floor to ceiling windows that I kept the drapes open the entire trip to look out. His and her's closets were a plus for us too. TV in the bathroom. We were on the 29th floor.
We stayed at Mandalay Bay this past September for 3 nights. We loved it. We were on the 13th floor facing the north, so we had a little bit of a strip view. The basic room we stayed in was very nice. The bathroom was pretty big and had a seperate toilet. We ate at the Red White & Blue resteraunt which was excellent!! And the coffee shop was awesome! Mandalay Beach was also very nice. We also stayed at THE hotel just last month November 29-December 3rd. THE hotel is connected to Mandalay bay and is much nicer with REAL suites that are larger.

I would stay there again, but it won't be until the end of next year. I have been checking prices for Feb-May and they have skyrocketed. Must be the busy season.
Miniwhale is spot on. Although lots of them female youngins don't bother me in the least.

I'm pretty sure the OP was looking for somewhat more recent info Bagiant! MB opened in what, 1999 or so? 12 year old info isn't usually very useful when it involves Vegas properties!

As far as the $20 tip at check in goes, the results posted on their website are mixed, but seems to work for some. It never hurts to try!
