Of note 40% of illegals are here on overstayed visas. They would not be impacted by a wall. A wall also does not convince those here already to leave. Universal everify with criminal penalties for employers would seem a prudent step even if you were going to build a wall. Perhaps some fake journalist will ask the presidentity about this big policy opportunity now thathat the GOP has control of the WH, house answer Senate.
It seems there is a unique coalition of groups - NRA, conservative business groups, pro immigrants groups and the ACLU for example that oppose everify. Again, as a fiscal conservative I wonder why we don't do the most cost effective thing to achieve this goal. A goal I will admit I'm not a fan of.
A wall is useless. Mexicans are already digging tunnels under it.
If anyone is truly serious about stopping illegals, go after the CEO's and executives that hire them. Give every company 3 months to purge the illegal workers and get their documents in order. Start doing corporate sweeps, and company that has illeagals working for them the CEO and executives get fined 1 million dollars for each infraction and a year in prison, no exceptions.
The illegal problem would be solved rather quickly after a few of these crooked CEO's and executives are made an example of.
No work = no reason to stay here.

I don't believe either is necessarily bad - although the wall is equivalent to paying people to dig a hole and then fill it in. At least its jobs.
The problem is how they are funded (or not funded). There's been lots of bellyaching on this board from right-wingers crying about "big government spending", "free shit", and "the problem with socialism and other people's money"...blah,blah,blah. At the end of the day nobody loves free shit more than the fiscal conservatives managing the Republican budget...or their cheerleaders on this board.
You can go on one thread here and listen to them cry about shrinking deficits under Obama....and then come onto this thread and watch them cheer for deficit fueling policy from Trump. I don't hear any crybaby rants about government spending or other people's money - both of which describe the Great Wall of Mexico. Is there anyone left that still takes our resident "Rhinos" seriously ?
