too much? No. I'd draft Timmy higher than the 4th round.
There is too much value placed on draft choices. The Eagles picked up a pro-bowl linebacker for a 4th round pick. Great move for the Eagles.
and there is a list of guys drafted in the first round who were complete duds also. While many feel that there is too much value placed on draft choices, there is no real way of telling if a player is a star or a dud so they go with what they have available, the draft, combines and 40 times, etc. it is also unfortunate that many players don't get a decent chance to show what they have because they weren't a high round draft choice. Luckily the better ones find a way to show their talent. Hawaii's Bess with Miami is one exception, not even a high draft pick, I think he was a free agent but now is a starter.
As for tebow, I think 4th and 6th round draft picks just about sums it up. We all knew that the previous denver management wasn't very smart to trade and go for tebow in the first round as he wasn't a 1st round draft talent. He didn't fit into the prototypical qb mode although he had a talent for winning. The guy is a tremendous athlete but as others have said, not the qb that will take a team to the SB. Not sure about the jets though, like Miami and other teams they have no real team focus, the guy went from a possible contender to a questionable team.
Not sure if Denver could have gotten higher draft choices but maybe they just wanted to get rid of the guy (didn't want the tebow sideshow as a distraction) and move on with manning. Lucky for the jets tebow's current contract isn't that bad, he was to get paid a lot if he succeeded (playoffs, wins, etc.) but his base contract wasn't a big strain on the team's salary cap.
Denver and Elway are rolling the dice that manning can still produce for a few more years. There is no way of predicting how it will end up though there is a lot of hope (and hype). While Denver's O line is solid, all it takes is one solid hit and that could be the end of it all. After Elway retired Denver really hasn't been the same team, always seems to be short a player or two, they better invest in a solid backup qb just in case. As for Elway getting thrown under the bus, it isn't Bowlen that will call for his head, it will be the fans. But Denver has made mistakes in the past and will move on if this one doesn't work out either. Still, Elway will then get a bad rep if this thing doesn't work.
don't know what the guy can do other than qb. RB? not sure if he has the hands and quickness to be a WR like some converted qb's. My guess is that they brought him in to push sanchez to be a better qb and if not then take over himself. That will also mean that the Jets will have to rework their offense to suit tebow's talents.
