Markets

Icahn did a phone interview on CNBC at noon today, I missed the first part of it, but he was on for close to an hour I believe. Interesting guy for sure.

Well looks like people had a change of heart on the ETP/WMB get togother, up over 10% today, go figger'.

I miss being directly involved in the stock market. A little more than 10 years ago, I opened ScottTrade account with $11,000. I enjoyed making my buys and sells based on my own research, and I focused on industry sectors that interested me. I managed to turn that $11,000 into $17,500 in 14 months buying and selling individual stocks before I got out. I made about half of that ROI on gaming stocks. Gaming Partners International was particularly good to me as they merged with or bought a significant segment of businesses that supply casinos with the tools of their trade. I really enjoyed the challenge of picking winners!

Picking the winners is great! It's the losers we don't like to talk about.
One other thing Icahn said

Carl Icahn: 'No-brainer' to elect Trump president

Timing was part of the challenge. I bought and sold some stocks multiple times. Thinking about how the time of year could affect some stocks can also help in picking winners....stuff like buying Mattel a couple months before Christmas.

Back in '98 I opened an acct with 15K, that was in the dot com era and I got the bug(and somewhat lucky at first). I played a lot of different stocks but made a ton with the online brokers and a couple .com IPO's. I turned it into 60K and thought I was invincible. Then the Mkt tanked along with many stocks I was trading.
When it was all said and done, I paid off a 14K car and that acct dwindled to just under a thousand so I basically broke even and learned an invaluable lesson. Never, EVER use margin to gamble on the market. It was fun while it lasted.

Perhaps the end of oil's slide?

Who in the heck knows, but this is encouraging that maybe some of the big guys are getting togother and finally realizing 40 something oil won't pay the bills. I sure hope so 'cause I'm so deep in energy right now (yes I kept buying), that's it's been a little scary.
Good news, I have a lot of time. better news, I don't think energy is going out of demand anytime soon. I have no doubt that oil will bounce back, throw some speculators into the mix, might get a run for a big bounce.
Then again, what do I know, it'll probably go back to 40.
