I do mystery shops where you evaluate a restaurant, store, hotel, auto dealership, etc. The pay varies for each shop. If you are required to make a purchase, they will reimburse your expenses.

One of the companies I've worked for has this shop available. You won't get paid, but you will be reimbursed up to $600 for your expenses at the Marriott.

I've been paid $485 by this company this year. Some reimbursement for meals at upscale restaurants as well as additional "shop fees". They usually pay in 30-45 days via paypal.

Nope, you just check into the hotel, have meals and drinks and then fill out an evaluation report on your experience. It normally will ask about the cleanliness of the place, the service, the food quality and stuff about the staff who you have to identify by name.

Marriott hired the mystery shopper company to get unbiased evaluations of their properties.

I just got back from the San Diego Marriott. It was a wonderful stay.

Good for you. I have a history of developing metrics and facilitating secret shoppers for a variety of industry as well as providing customer service training and workshops.

Currently there is a mystery shop at a steakhouse in Dallas ((4 star rated (119 Google reviews) & yelp (88 reviews) & Urbanspoon (191 reviews); 4.5 stars at opentable (132 reviews))) which pays $12.

However, they will reimburse up to $150 for your meal and even pay $8 towards parking.

I'm not sure how much time it takes to fill out the evaluation, but this seems like an interesting shop. Unfortunately, I didn't get it.

I have also found myself more observant of the customer service I get since I began doing the mystery shops.
