Maryland Cops Suck

Woman gets ticket for driving 63 in a 65 zone.

"Police say the reason they ticketed her was that she was driving in the left lane reserved for speedier commuters."

So she got a ticket for staying under the speed limit because she was slowing down people who would otherwise illegally go over the speed limit? Damn! Maryland cops suck.
I disagree. Driving 70 or 75 might be marginally unsafe. But obtusely clogging the left lane at speeds below that of prevailing traffic is considerably less safe. Oh, and her actions are also against the law.

The cop acted in the best interest all of the drivers on the road. If she fights the ticket, I hope she loses.
I'm mostly with the cops here, though I'd have given a warning rather than an actual ticket. If there was space in the right hand lane, she should move her slower vehicle over there so that people going the limit can make use of the left lane.

No, that's a mischaracterization. The woman was slowing down people interested in driving at the limit. Those are the drivers that the cops are trying to protect, not speeders (though they too would benefit).

Additionally, it's safer if we all abide by the convention of only passing on the left, not the right. In Western Europe, passing on the right is frequently ticketed, and rightly so.
Da Law, ...... is Da Law

Oh goody! Its not often I get to butt heads with arshaleign (aka Forkush) and chilcoot (aka chilcoot).

I'd concede your point if she was going 10-15 miles under the limit in the fast lane. But 63 in a 65? By law its illegal to over that limit...and apparently going 2 miles under is illegal too. Thats a margin of error of 1 mph? I hope everyone has cruise control in Maryland. I cant manually control my speed that accurately.

I thought you guys were liberals. You're suppossed to hate the troops like me.
Like I said, I would have issued a warning, I think it's a better fit.

But I also believe in the law, and if she was able to move to the right lane, she should have, by law that's where slower vehicles like hers belong.

Her problem wasn't her speed. Here problem was her speed in the left lane.

And you don't hate the troops, come on now, neither of us do.
Sometimes drivers will do 2-3 miles over the speed limit just to bust'em on the cop.

In this case, it could have been 2 miles below for the same reason.

Yeah, I bet Gloria Allred will be swooping in any moment to represent the dipshit.

And I'll make it simple for you pj. Regardless of your speed, if you are impeding the normal traffic flow, get out of the fast lane. See, simple! Someone in the fast lane impeding prevailing traffic is a helluva a lot more dangerous to themselves and others than someone doing 75.

hate getting behind a slow poke in the "passing lane".... sweet Jesus, move over or park it.
I get disgusted with the 18 wheelers that look in the side mirror see you approaching. At the last minute the pull in the passing lane doing 68 passing another 18 wheeler that is doing 67. Takes a couple of miles for him just to get around the other truck!
Speed limit is 75 on our interstate and they need to yield, rather than pulling in front of you. They have their cruise set and they are not going to touch the brakes for any reason!
