Massive Tornado Rips Thru Land Of Lincoln

Am hearing reports (and have seen video from WGN-TV) of a massive wedge tornado that has just plowed thru Northern Illinois. Reports have a 50 mile path of destruction......cities hit are Dixon, Rochelle, Fairdale. May be others.

As this just happened 2 hours ago as the sun was setting and darkness came soon after, the scope of damage will probably not be known till tomorrow. It sounds like quite the mess.

Lots of early warnings had been given....so hopefully folks had gotten into basements and other places of shelter.
Here's some Weather Channel footage of the aftermath.

Only 2 deaths and 22 injuries. That's a miracle, considering this twister was rated as an EF-4 (a monster) and was on the ground for 30+ miles.

The supercell T-storm that spawned the EF-4 also had several other tornados, EF-0 and EF-1, that did damage in neigboring areas.

The small town of Fairdale suffered the worst.....95% of it's homes and buildings were destroyed or severely damaged. The 2 fatalities came from that town.

Gotta give the NWS some credit. Lots of lead time on the warnings. That probably kept the death toll to a minimum.
My brother lives about 35 miles east of Fairdale. Luckily he didn't experience anything but normal thunderstorm winds.
