MAX casino review

Stopped by the Max Casino today (the old Westin Causarina) to check it out. My wife and I usually go to Ellis Island on Saturdays anyway, as they offer local players a free slice of pizza and a beer via the mailer, and the Causarina is right around the corner.

Anyway, we hadn't been in the old Causarina for years, but read they were offering $10 free play and a $5 limited edition chip for signing up. We hadn't signed up for a card in the past, so thought we'd take advantage of it.

We signed up to take advantage of the $10 free play. Based on what I had read online, I thought we were to receive the $5 commemorative chip as well, but I was mistaken - only former members of the slot club received the chip for just re-enrolling. As it turns out, new members get the $10 free play, and get a free chip after 100 points earned ($100 coin-in). In addition, after earning an additional 200 points, members get a free t-shirt, and for an additional 500 points, a free polo shirt. Keep in mind that these are based on "additional"points to earn everything on the same day, and requires 800 points (100 chip + 200 t-shirt + 500 polo). Not a problem for us. In addition, apparently this is not limited to the same day - we could have earned half the points required, and came back next week or whenever to complete the required points.

The casino is pretty small by Las Vegas standards, and caters to a business crowd. One odd thing - there are very few VP machines on the floor, and for the ones that I looked at, the paytables were worse than they were at the bar. I didn't look at all of the machines, but I noticed 6/5 BP VP machines on the floor, and 7/5 BP at the bar. It appears that the comp return is decent - when I hit around 1,000 points, my card showed I had $4.50 in comp dollars, and the players club showed I could redeem $1 free play for every 200 points. I don't know if these are independent of each other - I'll have to check next time we stop by. Comps are good at their restaurant, gift shop, and the lobby bar.

Josh, the bartender. made a killer Cosmopolitan, according to my wife. I enjoyed a few Stella Artois beers (on tap) at the bar while playing. Service was good, and they offered free bar snacks (cracker & peanut mix stuff -enough to take the edge off).

All in all, we enjoyed stopping by there. It's a different crowd than most LV strip casinos, as it's more of a business clientele. As a local, I actually enjoyed it, and expect we'll be stopping by again.

BTW, the players club mentioned the $5 chip is a limited edition, with only 500 chips. It comes in a little plastic sleeve - I attached a picture. Hopefully it works....

Cool...That gives me another place to visit in December. Those little casinos back there had a long history of good coupons and promos to get people in the door...ellis island, tuscany, westin, terribles. With the last two changing mgmt it will be interesting to see if that tradition continues. Lets hope so.

That was our first ever Vegas experience(it was the Maxim back then) and was perfect for us. I'll never forget after checking in we headed up to the fifth floor and were greetyed with orange shag carpeting that ran halfway up the walls in the hallways. Upon entering our room, the backdrop for our headboard was a full wall sized wallpare mural of a strip scene from the 60's or 70's. We had fun reading all the old marquee ads of the who's who of performers back then. I'll never forget how intimidated I was approching my first BJ table.
