Mexican Coca-Cola

As far as I can tell, Coca-Cola imported from Mexico is the only major cola sold in the U.S. that still uses cane sugar instead of corn syrup as the sweetener. What a difference in taste! How come the Mexicans can afford to use cane sugar, and our U.S. corporate giant behemoths use corn syrup in order to maximize their profits? And, to boot, the Mexicans still sell their Coca-Cola it in those beautiful glass bottles that look like they just jumped off a Norman Rockwell portrait.

"Greed is Good" (Gordon Gekko from the movie "Wall Street").
INdianapeddler is correct. Sugar tastes good. High-Fructose Corn Syrup is cheaper. Hence, ‘mericans ingest lots of high fructose corn syrup, ‘cause that’s all there is.

Almost.

In 2009 PepsiCo introduced the “Throwback” line of natural-sugar flavored sodas, . . . specifically Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, . . . in 5-week limited releases. DonDiego can attest that it was delicious.
On March 11, 2011, PepsiCo announced that both Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback would become permanent additions to their product line. In December 2010 sugar flavored Sierra Mist Natural made an appearance; it is also in the permanent PepsiCo lineup now.

Dr. Pepper has joined the party introducing Heritage Dr. Pepper in November 2009.

Although Mexican Coke is not officially sold in the US, it can be found under-the-counter throughout the SouthWest, or by one who knows someone with access to a Mexican Coke speakeasy. And Coca-Cola does sell Kosher Coca-Cola for the Jewish Passover Holiday, as corn and, hence, corn-syrup is kitnyot to the Ashkenazim during this season.

Oh, . . . and as the cost of high-fructose corn syrup rise, . . . largely because of the rise in the price of corn, . . . largely because of the Government subsidy to ethanol producers, . . . one might expect more sugar flavored pleasures to reappear.

About the bottles, . . . DonDiego doubts that glass will replace the plastic or even metal containers, in spite of the fact that silicon is more abundant than aluminum. Glass weighs more, and transport costs are likely to increase in the future.

Everything comes to he who waits.

Actually, the paddling I do involves canoes, but I am not at all opposed to your interpretation, Senor Don Diego.

In Mexico they also sell Pepsi with sugar. Really can tell the difference.
I do my grocery shopping at two places here in Chicago: Jewel-Osco (like Safeway), and Costco.

They both carry Mexican Coca-Cola and it is more expensive. I don't drink much pop (soda) but when I do I prefer Dos Equis, I mean Mexican Coke. Makes a pretty good rum and Coke.

corn syrup is cheap because of tariffs on cane sugar to protect corn and sugar beet farmers. Iowa being first in the primaries will ensure this continues. Corn farmers are the real welfare queens
Indy, one of our local drive thru's has Mexican coke for sale. I'll have to check to see if its in stock as I haven't been there in awhile.

Btw, the throwback Pepsi's are freaking great! A few of those and a Godfathers pizza, and I'm going to be in heaven. (although I shouldn't be eating all that salt
Its a bit pricey to order online, but there is still a Dr. Pepper plant in Texas that sells the original formula with sugar in the old glass bottles.
