MGM Grand Lion’s Share Progressive

I heard that whoever wins the final jackpot also gets to keep the machine.

Have you ever walked through the MGM Grand and noticed a slot machine that looks a bit out of place? The machine is from the early 90?s and it’s called the Lions Share Progressive with a jackpot that is currently at an estimated $2.2 million dollars.

The progressive jackpot has never been hit and state law prevents MGM Resorts International from removing the machine until the jackpot is hit. Theoretically the jackpot should have been won a long time ago. Some people estimate that the house edge is somewhere around negative 800-1500% because of the jackpot. The other interesting thing about this machine is that you will be paid the full $2.2 million dollar amount if you hit it and not receive annual payments like the new progressive machines.

The machine is located outside the high limit slot room among $1 and $5 slots. The machine is a dollar machine and it takes $3 per spin to play for the progressive. If you do manage to win some money on this machine and press the cashout button, you will have to wait for a handpay because this machine does not have TITO (Ticket In Ticket Out)…. its too old for this technology! It has also been reported that the bill acceptor will not take many new$5?s and $20?s. $100?s seem to work fine.

So, next time you are in the MGM, look for this machine and try your luck… You never know, you might just hit it!

I was pretty drunk playing Sigma Derby and wondered over to a multi-million dollar progressive slot. Put in $3 and gave it a pull. I still have to go to work.
Methinks the "Lions Share" of the money is going to the casino.
I think it's barely possible to win on Lions Share.

I've looked for it twice and was unable to find it. I'd be willing to throw $20 at it every trip. I imagine there would be a certain "celebrity" element to winning so you would get instant fame as well as instant fortune.
Location: Walk to the Craps tables and face the High Limit slot area. Walk about 50 feet toward the High Limit area and it will be to your right another 10 feet or so.

History: The Lion's Share machine is the sole survivor of a bank of similar machines. The last one is being kept in operation because Nevada gaming law stipulates that a progressive jackpot may not be pocketed by the casino... it must be won by a player (since a progressive is built by players with the understanding that a percentage of their action is going toward the jackpot, eventually to be payed out to a player).

Therefore, MGM had two options, keep at least one Lion's share machine running until someone hits the progressive jackpot, or roll the progressive jackpot over into another (would have to be custom designed) progressive game with precisely the same odds.

When someone finally hits that jackpot, MGM will almost certainly take the machine out of play forever at that moment. I've heard from non authoritative sources that whomever hits it gets to keep the machine itself, though if it isn't a local Nevadan, state law could easily prohibit that very cool side benefit.
I played it once a few years ago. I decided to put $60 in and take my 20 pulls and walk away with whatever I won. After my 20 spins I had a grand total of ZERO. I didn't even hit a single cherry on the way down. I'm now somewhat less enthusiastic about playing it at some point in the future.
Before Orderly's post DonDiego had already decided that he'd invest a few bucks in this machine on his next trip to "The City of Schools and Churches". It seemed due.

After reading Orderly's post DonDiego is certain he'll give this machine a shot. It is way overdue !

of course you didn't hit a single cherry. there are no cherry symbols on the machine.

I have played it 3 times. the first 2 times I won a little on it, but of course not the 2 million. the last time, not so much
I have a ritual that includes playing that machine every time I'm in town.
