MGM Parking update

It starts June 6. Valet can be as much as $18 and maximum parking fee per day will be $10.

June 6, will mark the day that I stop going or staying at MGM Properties, until either every casino does it or until they stop charging.

Another article about it
I am amazed at how well they have it organized, and I think the charges are reasonable, all things considered. (I will be flamed for that statement, I'm sure.) I can recall times I would pay twice the fare for a parking place.

Here is some of what I was e-mailed from MRI. There is much more.

Nevada residents, Free self-parking for 24 hours until 12/19/16.

Self-parking is complimentary for all mLife Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and NOIR.
Self-parking and Valet parking is complimentary for Gold, Platinum, and NOIR.

Registered guests at any MRI hotel have complimentary parking through 11:59 day of departure. Includes in and out parking at all MRI hotels during hotel stay.

Short term self-parking free for up to one hour for anyone.
After first hour, up to 4 hours is $7 at Bellagio, Aria etc.
Up to 24 hours is $10.
Additional days $10/ day.

Cheaper at Monte Carlo, NYNY, etc.

Valet at Bellagio/Aria etc. without mLife card 0-4 hours is $13; 4-24 hours $18; $18 hrs/each additional day. No free 1 hour Valet (except Gold, Plat, NOIR).

All depends on capacity, and some deals not effective during special events.
I got this info (and more)in an e-mail from MRI.

Everyone with an MLife account should get the same or similar e-mail. Otherwise I can forward it, as it has a lot of information depending on your MLife status an/or non-status, and I could have miss-stated some of the information. PM me your e-mail address and I'll forward what I got.

Those rates would be reasonable in Manhattan, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, but we are talking Vegas, where nothing is the same as those other cities, including hotel rates and parking.

Their excuse that they want to give the public state of the art parking is pure bullshit. They want the money to raise capital to build a parking structure behind the Excalibur, instead of floating another junk bond. The structure will be intended for the new Arena and there will be a planned overhead walkway over Tropicana Ave.

I can understand charging people for parking for an event at the arena, because they are taking spaces from people who want to stay at the hotel, or who want to gamble, shop, or dine at the hotel. That is the only sympathy I have for them.

I'm not going to contribute to them, and I hope enough people boycott that it affects their bottom line and they have to make a decision to cease it.
I hear you, and understand completely.

We take cabs anyway, and I can walk to that arena if ever in a million years I would want to go there.
I hate crowds anywhere, so not likely to happen even if JC himself was on tour.

Hope I didn't offend with that last remark.

In my email today:

Parking and M life Benefits

Dear XXXXX,

MGM Resorts International is taking steps to implement a $90 million parking
strategy to expand parking availability, implement technology upgrades and reduce
the hassle and frustration resulting from outdated and inefficient facilities.
In order to fund these investments—and the ongoing maintenance and capital
improvements of our parking facilities—we will be instituting fees for self and
valet parking. Fees will begin to roll out at our Las Vegas hotels on June 6, 2016. These
rates remain significantly below those of other highly popular tourism destinations.

As an M life Rewards Member:
• Once you've achieved Pearl tier status or above, you will receive
complimentary selfparking.

• Once you've achieved Gold tier status or above, you will receive
complimentary valet parking.

All parking is subject to availability.

The environment in Las Vegas has changed dramatically in the decades since
amenities like low-quality dining, lodging and free parking were offered to attract
customers. Growth in tourism and our local population—including many more cars
on our local roadways—requires more parking availability, more efficient, modern
parking systems and more frequent maintenance and upgrades to our aging
facilities—all of which come at significant cost.

We have come to this decision with a great deal of care, particularly knowing we
would be breaking with Las Vegas tradition. We are committed to continuing to
develop the Las Vegas guest experience and hope that you will recognize the
improvements during your next trip to one of our Las Vegas resorts.

Click here for a complete overview of our parking policy.

Sincerely,

Jordan Salmon

Vice President, Loyalty Marketing

I feel for the properties that will be next to MGM properties. While they won't currently plan on charging for parking, they will have the problem of people parking in their structure and walking to MGM Grand casinos. For instance the Cosmopolitan has Aria and Bellagio near it. Caesars has Mirage and Bellagio.
You are so right, and I wonder how they'll keep people from using other people's MGM players cards?

Since anybody can self-park free for an hour at any MRI, that would at least allow a visit to the Conservatory, maybe even a meal at he café. Also, a friend could drop you off there, in and out, pick you up later, in and out.
What is "pearl" status? If its anything beyond the default status that everyone gets I wont be parking at their casinos.

Do hotel guests get free parking?

I just read that normal hotel guests will not receive free parking and will pay parking fees in addition to resort fees.

I really hope this backfires on MGM, but there are probably too many people out there who don't care.
