MGM to outsource valet parking

I suspect finding a parking space (paid or not) is a lot more difficult in New York City or other large cities and it makes sense to have to pay. Parking is plentiful here in Las Vegas including on the strip and paying is more about greed than necessity based on limited space.
Is Liondownnow greedy when he sells any of his assets?

Where are these free spaces? Where are the municipal parking lots? The on street parking spots? Land around the strip is some of the most valuable real estate in the country. Does it make fiscal sense to have acres of land sitting there not producing income?
Look at the revenue the formerly fallow space that is now the Link is producing.

I am not debating that there is always money to be made on space. I am saying that a city like New York does not have a premium of space like here in the mojave. Any business that wants to add to their bottom line can follow MGM down that road or read the other thread on this forum and charge for all kinds of stuff.

As a consumer I totally understand paying to park in New York but do not feel the same about parking out here in this vast desert. The strip parking lots are rarely full to capacity. Maybe it is because nothing has changed except the desire to charge me now.

I posted this thread about the Valet jobs being outsourced by MGM, I think that is the worst part in all of this. Our local news said that the employees will transfer to the new company but likely lose a lot of money due to reduced tips. This new valet service will supposedly cost $15-$17 per car and the feeling is that tips will be impacted a lot with customers paying so much already.

The Mojave is vast. The Strip isn't. Feel free to park west of 15 or east of Koval. As far as the lots not being full, the last time I tried parking at Harrahs, I didn't have my Platinum card and was sent down to the Flamingo. With the High Roller and the Linq, parking sucks.
billryan - just curious, how much MGM stock do you have?
What do you think of the actual topic of this thread about the valet employees?

Doesn't bother me. It's an entry level job that is not being outsourced out of the country, just outsourced to another management company. It will probably be the same people parking cars as it is today. And if they can find people willing to do the job for less money, that's the way the free market works.
Snidely333, I can not really argue with your assessment. I guess I am guilty of caring to much about others at times. I am not a valet but I feel sad for the employees that MGM is discarding for a dollar. It is easy to argue for all of these changes for the sake of making a profit. That thread about additional fees and charges would be other money making ideas. Las Vegas used to be the land of the cheap eats and great deals, those days are going away. I hope our tourism does not take a hit.
