Michael Wardian wins the Las Vegas Marathon........dressed as Elvis

I understand that he's now in the Guinness Book of World Records for fastest marathon while dressed as Elvis. He ran 2:38:34, which is an admirable time, but 30 plus minutes slower than today's World Class runners.

I love his effort and sense of humor, however.
Thank you, thank you very much for the info.
I'd never heard of the Las Vegas Marathon.

Is this a yearly event? Is it the same week every year?

I read that most streets around and including the Strip are closed early afternoon for several hours.

I want to avoid scheduling a Vegas trip (flying in) when this event is on.

I'm sure it is a fun event, and congrats to the winner.

Just don't want to be stuck at the airport, not able to get to my hotel.

Thanks.
Yes, this is an annual event, and it was held last Sunday. The full marathon included 39,000 plus runners, but it's far from an elite field. Hell, the times I ran as a 16 year old and a 19 year old would have placed me 11th and 5th respectively, and I was VERY far from being a great runner.

Here's road closure information for this years race. As you'll see, much of the strip was closed for traffic for 5-18 hours. There are actually a 10k race, a 13.1 mile half marathon, and a 26.2 mile race all on Sunday, so that explains why parts of the Strip are closed for so long.

I'm sure there are taxi accommodations to land you at the back door of any strip casino.

Road closures on race day

Traffic around the airport was a nightmare. Numerous reports of missed flights, people stuck for three hours, cars running out of gas. The airport was effectively shut down as pilots and attendants couldn't get in.
I live about two miles from the south eastern end of the airport and at 2pm I sat in traffic for about fifteen minutes before making a uturn and abandoning my plans to go to a pizza place near UNLV.
Somebody dropped the ball.
Thanks, IndyB and billryan. That nightmare is what I'd want to avoid.

We've flown to Vegas 3-4 times a year for about 20 years, often in November.
I can't believe I never encountered this event, or at least heard of it.

So, this makes 2 dates I'll want to know/avoid for next year: Electric Daisy Carnival and Las Vegas Marathon.
EDC wasn't that bad. I believe the Sunday of the Marathon was also a big College hoops game at the Thomas and Mack. Perfect storm.
If you are staying at a hotel, the EDC is that bad. For the first time ever, I had to sign an affidavit that I would not provide any alcohol to someone who was under aged. They must have been rooming 20 people in the room next door to my room. It was a mess.

I suspect that Elvis A Presley would have been at least 30 minutes slower than today's champions, even at his best. Perhaps even 30 minutes slower than a "healthy" (if my physician is to be trusted) carcass like myself. But to be clear, this diminishes the King's legacy in no way.

I second the EDC wasn't bad. However all those kids with the leggings were a hoot.
