Maybe I missed it. What happened to the robin's eggs? Have they hatched yet?

Monsters

DonDiego apologizes for not chronicling the history of his robins' blue eggs. But the answer to dobot11's question is most disagreeable.

In the wee-hours of darkness early on Cinco de Mayo a fiend or fiends conducted a raid upon the nest. teechur discovered this upon retrieving the newspaper from the driveway upon morning light. Three eggs were gone! The nest had been abandoned! Four lives had ended before they had even begun.

DonDiego was distraught. teechur wisely counseled poor old grief stricken DonDiego to delay posting this unpleasant news. DonDiego was overcome by melancholy. He fell into a deep funk. [That's funk: "f-u-n-k", OK? "f-u-N-k".] He didn't eat. He had trouble sleeping.
But he's OK now.

Anyway DonDiego suspects a mammal. He has no evidence, . . . just a feeling. DonDiego counsels everyone: "Never trust anything with teats."

Ahh, well,. . . "Circle of Life".

Bandits

So, . . . now masked brigands have invaded DonDiego's backyard. Two years ago DonDiego replaced a sickly Dogwood Tree with a Serviceberry Tree. (This schrub is also called a "Sarvis Tree" up heh' in Appalachia. There is a story behind the name: "After a long hard Appalachian Winter folks began to look forward to Spring for many reasons-among them the return of the traveling preacher. It seemed the trees began to bloom at the same time church 'sarvises' returned.")

The berries on this tree, . . . edible by humans, by the way, . . . attract the plunderers pictured below. Considering the absence of restraint exhibited by these avian trespassers it is most unlikely that a human will ever taste a berry from this tree.

They wear masks:

They form mobs:

Did DonDiego mention they wear masks?:
