The Moon

It's called a "SuperMoon".

If one is out-and-about anytime tonight, Sunday, or Monday DonDiego suggests one take a look at the Moon. It looks a mite bigger and significantly brighter than "normal".

The Earth's natural satellite is about as close as it gets to the earth and fullest on Monday morning 06:22 EST.
Looks the same to me.

Full moons are great. We have an almost tradition amongst the "old men" surfers to go out a couple of hours before sunrise and surf under the full moon each cycle. With the moon setting in the west you can actually see the sets rolling in easier than during the day.
Apparently the "Supermoon" appears 12-14% larger than a "micromoon", which is achieved when the moon is furthest from the Earth.

Either way, here's Harry Connick Jr. singing about The Man in the Moon.
Poor old DonDiego peeked at the Moon the last 2 evenings and this morning jes' a mite before it was totally full.

Since it's just one Moon with nothing to compare it to, it didn't look extraordinarily large. However, it was notably brighter than a normal full Moon. The last time the Moon was this close when full was the year little DonDiego was born; he doesn't remember it.

Saw it on my drive to work this am. Looked bright and pretty big. I could see the swiss cheese holes but not the man in the moon or the cow jumping over it. I just wish a blue moon was really blue. Now that would be cool!
Here in Portland we just get super cloud
My moon is larger than it used to be.
Went out to the desert last night, after the Giant game. Had two sets of binoculars and it was fun looking at the moon and the stars. After so long in the city, I'm still amazed how many stars you can see in real darkness.
