Most Dangerous Cities in the U.S.

The newest list is out. Las Vegas hit the list at #120. No wonder I fee so safe.

Dangerous Cities
West Valley City, Utah???? Because of high traffic accident incidents?

Percentage of people enrolled in health care as part of the criteria??

That is one skewed interpretation of "dangerous cities".

My feeling is that dead is dead, regardless of the cause. And when it comes to dying violently, your average rural area is about as safe as...Chicago!

I can see that.

But when I read the headline I think of violent crime, not accidents.

My feeling is that dead from your own fault...Oh well. Dead from someone else's fault...needs to be avoided.

Indy?

I thought only Chicago would make the list from the midwest....

The writer of the article is an idiot. Healthcare Insurance enrollment has nothing to do with how dangerous a city is. If they want a healthcare statistic for danger it should be the quality of medical care and quality emergency medical services.

A lower per capita police presence does not make a city more dangerous. It may actually be an indication of a less dangerous city. If you have a generally safe and crime free city, you need fewer policemen per capita....but that writer would put you on the danger list.

Traffic Fatalities per capita can be skewed by population especially if the survey is based on a single year. One fatal accident in one year might get a small town near the top of the list, but you can't really assume it's more dangerous to drive there. Note the #1 and #2 towns are among the smallest in the list (Waco and Hollywood FL).

It's all Poppycock.
I agree with AlanLeroy. The writer believes that two cities of equal size and equal crime statistics are not equally safe. Dead is dead, robbed is robbed, and raped is raped.

The writer is certainly a dolt.

The gentleman to which alanleroy refers is Christian Neeser, whose LinkedIn profile suggests he is likely not an idiot.

He has written another article Visualizing Crime in the USA, which was reprinted in EverythingSouthCity.com, [ESC] an online news source for those residing in South San Francisco.
It presents FBI data in colorful charts pertaining to "real" dangerous crimes ranked by State; like Homicide (Mississippi is worst), Robbery (Maryland is worst), and Arson (Ohio is worst). Pr'bly more in line with what folks perceive as "dangerous".

Nonetheless, ESC includes the following disclaimer in its Terms of Use: "The content that is published on EverythingSouthCity.com contains rumors, speculation, assumptions, opinions and factual information. Were poor old DonDiego to initiate an online publication. he would follow the example of this ESC editorial policy.

I'm confused. Does DD believe that while Christian Neeser's LinkedIn page implies that he's not an idiot, the referenced article in "Everything South City" is strong proof that Neeser is, in fact, a blithering idiot?

Maybe I wasn't giving Mr. Neeser a fair evaluation. Maybe we should be looking at his entire body of work. Like for example his classic: Top 10 Hardest Working Cities.

https://www.mylife.com/blog/the-10-hardest-working-cities/

In this astute analysis, Neeser uses an interesting criteria for 'hardest working'...% of Population Enrolled in School.

"Percentage of Population Enrolled in School – You don’t have to be a paid professional to work hard. You have to pay before you get paid, so we looked at the amount of a city’s citizens enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school."

School is not Work....except for the teachers....It's school. Hardworking people aren't full time students. They Work for a living. People who don't know the difference probably shouldn't be doing top 10 Hardest Working lists. Ok. He's an idiot.
