Motley Fool - Only 10% of people go to Vegas to Gamble

Originally i went 4 times per year for business, pleasure, gambling, sun/pool, shows, dinner & sightseeing etc

Now we go once a year for gambling, meet family/friends, shows, food, sightseeing, etc. We also combine that trip with skiing in park City

While I don't gamble the entire time i am there, Vegas does receive most my gambling budget. Studies have shown that Vegas no longer receives a majority of their revenue from gambling, so there is truth to what Motley is saying.
I don't know how you can go to Vegas and NOT gamble.

Really? I know lots of people who come to Vegas for meetings and tradeshows who don't gamble. As an aside, the vast majority of the people I've met here don't gamble.

The only reason I go to Vegas (at least 4 times a year) is to gamble. Sure I visit Tunica casinos, but its the Vegas ones I really like. And I gamble more hours, for higher amounts, than I did for the first 15 years. I also tend to win more too.
We've been to the shows (but, hate standing in lines) and food is to keep you going...its the gambling that makes Vegas.

You could be my doppelganger, captain! Although my lovely wife and I both enjoy good eating at various local restaurants - no over-hyped/overpriced Strip food for us....

This is going in circles--

Some (like me) go to Vegas with intent to gamble.
Some go for conventions or other person but do enjoy gambling a bit while there.
Some go to conventions and gamble none, or just a little because it is...Vegas.

It has all been said. Each to his own.

Modern "news" article headlines are a mess. Eye catchers to garner clicks and views. The content is immaterial to the writer as long as the rating is reached. Or in this case gets you interested in using the writer's service to invest in the stock market.

While not 'exactly' saying so, the headline attracts your attention by stating that only 10% of Vegas visitors gamble. Then the first line of the 'story' states that 75% of visitors gamble, later they state that it is 77%.
And of course the whole story is based on a non-scientific poll. Even scientific polls are greatly skewed by people lying or purposefully giving wrong answers.

I go to Vegas to eat at nice restaurants. My wife goes to entertain clients. But lets face it, if it weren't for the gambling we would go somewhere else.
Agreed. It's like the joke about reading Playboy for the articles. Measuring what people do in Vegas is meaningful, measuring what they SAY they intend to do isn't.
LOL, in my youth I would go to Vegas for trade shows and not gamble one cent. I tell folks these days that Vegas and gambling is something better learned later in life. People who know us, know we go to Vegas to play and have some fun. A far cry from the days when I saw casinos as a way to separate people from their money.
hmmm, Las Vegas was booming when 90 percent went there to gamble, now 10 percent gamble and they are all bankrupt! are you reading this Vegas, time to get back us gamblers!!!! The mob mad money after the skim, nuff said.......I tell people I don't go there to gamble, I have 2 brothers that live there.....but I go to gamble too, I have gone over 24 hours without eating when gambling. I also try to explain, on average I spend over double on Disney when I go, to see a fu***** mouse. lol

The latest "news" from the Disney folks, (Unofficial) is that Mickey and Minnie have gotten a divorce!

When asked "Why", Mickey replied, "After all these years, I found that Minnie was F%#$ing Goofy."

lol
