Muliple Free Play offers that demand hotel stay

(edited to add) This is for AlanLeroy:

Im not going to answer with a speculative answer when I know what the casinos want. They want you to stay in their hotel. However, if you are a "drop in player" who will blow through ten thousand dollars after picking up $125 of free play, well sure -- Im sure the casinos will love you.

But if you are the player that Rob Singer described in the message to BaGiant and book a room to play through your free play money and no more, then no -- the casinos dont want you.

Those of you who are proponents of "the plan" now have Rob Singer in your corner. Gee... I bet you never thought you'd live to see the day when you and Rob were on the same side.

This is true ONLY if you do your free play and no more. I've stated several times that I've never done that. I've always given the casino plenty of play in return for the room. As long as I do that, I don't feel bad about taking someone else's chance at a comped room. Comped rooms are available on a first-come first-served basis. If someone waits until it's too late to get one for a given night, they'll learn that they have to plan ahead the next time.

It is simple. If the casinos dont want a player, they will stop sending offers.

Sue, whether you are giving the casino the action they want or not, youve just told us that the number of comped rooms is limited and when you book multiple comped rooms someone else could be getting bumped. Thats too bad.

edited to add: going back to my days with the airlines, this is why the reservation systems were changed and non refundable deposits were taken and non refundable tickets were sold. too many New Yorkers, we found, were booking multiple flights on Friday to Miami because they weren't sure what time they would get out of work and get to the airport. We had 100% reserved flights but only 50% of the seats filled at the gate.

Singer's advocating stiffing the casino...Everyone else is suggesting playing their normal coin-in and just not sleeping in the free room. If you can't see the difference then "What we've got here is failure to communicate...Some men, you just can't reach."
alanleroy, I see the difference. and yes, if you are giving the casino plenty of action (as I said before, several times) keep doing it. If the casinos make a profit, there's no problem with me.

But Singer raises the issue that players are doing this to only play through the free play and no more. If you dont understand how that works, it goes like this: you get $500 of free play and run it through a VP machine, and with each win you cash out the win, and you take those wins to the cage. Play a decent VP game and you can get back half of your free play in cash, and more if you are lucky. From what Rob Singer wrote, those are the people who get cut off after six months.

Of course there is the "new wrinkle" here raised by Sue Casey... that the number of "comped rooms" is limited. Until this post by Sue, everyone was talking about the unlimited supply of rooms in Vegas since occupancy is low. Now, Sue tells us that the number of comped rooms is limited and by booking multiple rooms you might be bumping someone else who needs the room for their trip.

My oh my. Lots of problems here.
Right...that's why I suggested that if the Casino Marketing people were smart, they'd make the free room part optional and come up with other ways to keep the player captive. That would require them to connect a few dots.

Dot 1: Not everyone is actually using that free room.
Dot 2: Many of the people not using the free room but using the free play are loyal customers who will still put in the coin-in they like.
Dot 3: If they can get a profitable player in the casino and don't need to give them a free room, everyone's better off not pretending like they're really checking in.

Maybe you can suggest this to those big-wigs you deal with. Run the nudist casino concept by them while you're at it.
alanleroy... they are reading this thread. the nudist casino wont be approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission, but carefully monitoring which free-play recipients actually yield the best returns to the casino is something they are working on.

As I mentioned earlier, I see now that my free play offers actually vary each month -- while two years ago I was assured of a "set level" for almost a year. they are more sensitive to actual play levels now.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate...Some men, you just can't reach."

Alanleroy, you've hit the nail on the head. I feel like I'm talking to the wall.

I've read many posts from people over the years who have received an offer for a comped room, yet when they decide to call, they are told "Sorry, that offer is sold out." That means they've reached their limit on comped rooms for that night, although there may be rooms available for purchase.

These people have been advised by others on the forums that when you get an offer like that, you need to jump on it quickly. You snooze, you lose.

BTW, I never booked multiple comped rooms because I didn't want to commit myself to all that play in that many casinos, not to mention all the time spent running around town and checking into hotels -- I'd just book one extra room per trip.

Anyway, when I booked a comped room but didn't sleep in it, AND gave the casino a good amount of play that day, I never felt guilty. If other people wanted to book that offer but waited too long, who cares? The casino got what they wanted out of me, and the offers kept on coming.

Once we were staying in a comped room at the Frontier for a few days. On one of those days, we packed an overnight bag and went to Laughlin to spend one night, leaving all our other stuff in the room at the Frontier.

On several occasions, we let friends use the room we weren't using. We still did our play that day in the casino, plus our friends played, so the casino got a "bonus."

This subject has run its course. We are never going to change MoneyLA's uninformed opinions (he's never done this multi-booking thing, so he doesn't know how it works). And he's never going to change the opinions of the rest of us. Might as well talk to the wall ...

Of course, I should probably give credit for that great line to "The Captain" in "Cool Hand Luke" (as played by Strother Martin)
