Music

It has been part of my life for virtually all of my life. My dad was a jazz musician, played keyboards, and is the only person I've ever known who had perfect pitch. I was a drummer for more than 20 years and have also played keyboards, guitar, bass and harmonica. I've been repairing and restoring audio equipment since the 1970's. I've been a concert promoter. I've been involved in concert production sound and lights - really fun work because you not only get to see the concerts, you get to meet the people making the music.

I'm always interested in finding good new music, hearing good old music, and discovering new ways bands cover other bands. I would like to see what music some other folks on this forum would like to share. My first share is from a band from Finland called Steve'N'Seagulls. This Scandinavian hillbilly band does a great cover of my favorite AC/DC song, Thunderstruck.

Gotta love the lawn mower, spoons, banjo, mandolin, accordion, standup bass and wrench on the anvil!
Thanks for sharing the link- I didn't know what to expect when the dude rolled up on the riding lawnmower but they are an unusual and talented band.

Good stuff,

Paul
There is a youtube video that I watched some time ago but can't find again. It looks like an eastern European amateur band covering some AC/DC; one of the instruments is a big old suitcase that a guy bangs on with enthusiasm. If I remember correctly, they are playing outside by an old pool.

Apocalyptica does some cool stuff but I'll share some Postmodern Jukebox. They cover popular songs in alternative styles. On this cover, they invite the giant sad clown to sing lead. I'd love to see Puddles in Vegas. Royals by Puddles and Postmodern Jukebox
Loved the clown thanks for sharing both of you.

Try to catch the Raleigh Ringers on PBS today. Handbells.

I play handbells in my little church, but no comparison to this group.

They even do "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch", and "Flight of the Bumblebee" on handbells, amidst traditional Christmas tunes. Unbelievable.
I had never heard of Pharrell Williams nor his original version of Happy before one of my sisters shared this link on Facebook. This is Walk Off The Earth's cover of Happy with help from Parachute. This is fun!

What is he doing to her neck?!?
If you like acoustic guitar covers, it's hard to beat Igor Presnyakov. He has a lot of videos on Youtube covering popular songs.

Nothing Else Matters
I love the sound of a 12-string guitar. They are harder to keep in tune than a 6-string, but they play much the same with a slightly wider neck. They aren't often used as a lead guitar in rock and roll songs, but Extreme did so in one of my all time favorite songs - Hole Hearted. Extreme's musical portfolio is a bit more diverse than most rock bands. They can head bang, go totally acoustic and smooth, and their vocal harmonies are nothing short of excellent!

A song I play in my head when I'm feeling down
I was surprised to learn that the singer from Extreme, Gary Cherone, recorded and toured with Van Halen as their lead singer. Why Can't This Be Love

Went to my local casino and they played some Milli Vanilli and Extreme this afternoon. They have a nice diverse music selection.
Bass guitar is usually relegated to being part of the rhythm section of popular music. Sometimes the bass line is both complicated and powerful enough to thrust it into the position of the lead instrument. While I like the original version of It's My Life by Talk Talk, I always felt they should have emphasized the bass line much more than they did. No Doubt did just that with their cover of the song almost 20 years later.

Sing it Gwen!
