Music

I've always found unusual time signatures to be appealing. Most musicians and some vocalists won't even attempt this form of music. During the 3 years I was running the light system at a local live rock club, I only heard one band that attempted to cover Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo, and even then they were using computerized back tracking to do it.

Danny Elfman was the front man, and lead singer and song writer for Oingo Boingo. His career consists of much more than his work with Oingo Boingo. He has composed many movie scores and other commercial music including the theme to The Simpsons TV show. He quit performing with Oingo Boingo almost 20 years ago when the sound pressure levels of live rock and roll started to have a significant affect on his hearing. He is married to Bridget Fonda, Peter Fonda's daughter. His niece by marriage, is Jenna Elfman, who is probably best known as Dharma in the Dharma and Greg TV series.

I think Auld Lang Syne is long worn out as the official song for New Year's Eve. I nominate Dead Man's Party to replace it!

Don't run away, it's only me!

Custer to Indian Scout: "What do those drums mean" ?
Scout: "Drums good... drums stop....VERY bad" !
Custer: "Why is it bad if drums stop" ?
Scout: "'Cause it means bass solo about to begin" !

In the history of music, very few songs have been covered by more than 100 artists. Time After Time is one of those rare songs. It was written by Rob Hyman of the Hooters, and Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi recorded the song for her debut album, She's So Unusual....one of the best love songs ever!

She was so young back then!

I like that.

What is he doing to her neck?!?

I watched all the videos and enjoyed each one. Fun post.
About 13 years ago, I heard a song on one of the local college radio stations that I really liked, and I went shopping for the CD. The name of the band was Orbital. The song was Illuminate featuring David Gray on vocals. I was a little disappointed to find the song only available on a 2-CD Import Set priced at $30, but I bought it anyway. I listened to everything on both disks and was a little disappointed again, because Illuminate was the only song I really liked. I did like the song enough that it was worth $30 to me to have it on CD. The audio on the youtube video is not quite as bright on the high frequencies in the percussion as it is on the original CD, but it is still a very good song on the video.

Show Me Where the Real Light Is!
Hi Bob; I am also a big music fan and listen to downloaded music pretty much all day.My first recollection of music was a 45 from Bo Diddley that I played hundred of times.I still like R&B,
soul and blues. We can thank casinos for breathing life for a lot of old school bands.
There is a lot of great music old and new.I try to go to as many shows and concerts as
possible. My favorite is Memphis in May for a big concert and I go to smaller clubs for other shows.
Since I am a big fan of psychedelic music I try to get to the Austin Psych Fest.A little out there, but
I can handle it even tho I have reached geezerdom (65).There are some great groups.Brian Jonestown and
Black Angels and many more.
On another note, there are a few huge Vegas bands that play mostly alternative rock. The Killers,Panic!
at the Disco.and Imagine Dragons are all big big bands.
Enough of my rambling and gambling, rock on my brother.

I had the privilege of running the light system at a relatively small club for two Bo Diddley concerts (on the same night) back in 1991 or 1992. He was over 60 but still having fun playing his brand of rock and roll. That night was fun for everyone there!
Nice! I have seen him many times thro the years.Last time was a summer ago.
He played with Peter Frampton who helped him on and off the stage, very touching.
