DonDiego is not surprised that unpleasant individuals from distinctly different cultures can and
do do harm to one another. His call for caution,
nothing more, might lessen the possibility of such unpleasantness with the United States.

Cold shoulder ? "DonDiego recommends restraint and caution in instituting any effort to bring large numbers of Muslim refugees into the United States." DonDiego recognizes the unpleasant conditions in which the Muslim refugees find themselves; he has no objection to providing them aid and even assisting them in relocation. But DonDiego would prefer the US not import problems unnecessarily.

And since the US, as the police officer of the world, was one of the first countries dedicated to get rid off Asad we are just as much responsible for the civil war in Syria as France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, etc. And since we are just as much responsible we should take in our fair share of refugees. It is our international duty. Germany has taken in 1 million and we are bitching about 10.000's.
DonDiego had nothing against Bashar al-Assad; had he been asked he'd've recommended "leave him alone". Same goes for poor old Muammar Gaddafi; it is tough to imagine a worse situation than post-Gaddafi Libya. Same with Hosni Mubarak in Egypt; Mr. Mubarak, considering nothing but the Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty of 1979l, made the world a better place.

DonDiego thanks LurkerPoster for his kind assessment.
DonDiego empfiehlt jeder eine Fremdsprache lernen. Vier Jahre der Lateinisch und zwei Jahren Deutsch Studien auf der Hochschule, . . . und einige Auffrischungskursein Deutsch danach haben arme alte DonDiegos Verständnis von Sprache allgemein verbessert.
Nonetheless, he finds himself much more capable of understanding English than German. [Actually he'd recommend every high school student study Latin, . . . for both the Roman history and to learn the Mother of Many Tongues. But nowadays students seem less capable of learning standard English and Math, even addition and subtraction, . . . so he accepts the unlikelihood of such a curriculum change.]
