My Maine TR

Westie - Good information as always.

Your report hits with perfect timing for us as we were in Portland EXACTLY one year ago. So we've been talking about our trip the past week or so.

I'm looking at MY lighthouse pic - taken from the other side of the point - on the cabinet next to me as I type.

Our whale excursion was devoid of whales, but we did see a mola mola who waved at us several times.

One other difference - coming from the Midwest, we did hit the lobster pretty hard. I had this vision of sitting out on a pier - lobster in hand - with an ice cold beer chaser. Came true at the Portland Lobster Co!

We are fortunate to have lobster at home at a reasonable price - this week $5.99 per pound.

I am sure you will remember this scene:

Sure do! Quite a grand spot - place your order in the little building there - pick up around the side. Whole lobster dinner with a side of chowder that was really good. Plus live music and cold beer. Life was good.

Caught the non-whale boat right behind you there.

Really enjoyed Portland. We took a little different track from there than you - west to the White Mountains and Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. Beautiful. A visit to the Bud Brewery- which made little sense because we come from a state with a baseball team named the Brewers- but then go half a country away to visit a brewery.

Back south to Gloucester. Stayed in a place called the Atlantis Motor Inn right on the ocean. Little breakfast café there - watch the lobster fisherman from your patio every morning. Rocky shore view with a short walk to the beach. Like some of the places you stayed, not brand spanking new, but VERY clean - from rooms to grounds. They pride themselves in that. Might be worth checking out if you head that way.

Final lobster bit the dust in Rockport, Mass - - very cool little town with a unique selection of shops.

Really enjoyed our visit; next time we want to head north the way you did.

Thanks again for the report!
Great trip report Westie!
