My New Computer Comes Tomorrow I can’t wait.

I just checked my tracking numbers. I probably won’t sleep tonight.
What did you get? From Amazon or direct from OEM? Desktop or laptop? Windows 10? Details please.
Ahhhhh, . . . brings back fond memories, . . . . .

DonDiego's first real computer, the Commodore 64.
(His was just like the one pictured above. The original became known as The Truck Driver Model because it was an inch or so thicker than the next version.)

I got it through Amazon. It is a Microsoft Surface 3 128GB. I also picked up the pen and the type cover.
I chose it primarily because of the pen input and handwriting recognition. My typing isn’t that good and I have found it to be my Achilles' heel in terms of my aspiring fiction writing career. Normally, I write everything out in old school paper notebooks and then type them out later. I can write for eight to nine hours at a time with a pen in hand. I am hoping this will allow me to basically cut out having to type everything after I have already written it out once.

Even if that doesn’t work out, I will end up with a hell of an upgrade for my ageing Galaxy Tab that is losing its touch sensitivity. I use that device primarily for Netflix, Hulu & Amazon Prime and then reading Kindle books. The kindle App works horribly on that device because Samsung’s interface for pulling up its software activates when you try and exit your current book and go back to your library. I usually end up rebooting the thing, so I don’t have to mess with it.

Is it Occulus Rift ready?

Hey, I had one of those.
It has arrived. I did the initial set-up and I am charging it now. I will probably spend the next couple of hours reviewing a tutorial on One Note. I did the initial set-up without the keyboard, and I am impressed with how well this thing is going to work as a tablet. I have never had a windows computer with a touch screen.

My first computer was an Atari 1200. I had friends that had Commodors and TRS-80s. However, the envy of the neighborhood were the two brothers that had an IBM PC JR because it played the best games. We used Apple IIs at school.

Over the years a lot of my computers came via mail order using the big Computer Shopper magazine to pick out just what I wanted. Then the internet took off and I ordered quite a few from the manufacturers’ sites directly. Finally, it seems like the last five years or so I just went to a big box retailer and picked whatever they had that suited me off the shelf. Spending weeks shopping for just the right deal, ordering the exact model that I wanted and then waiting for it to arrive brought back that old excitement that was missing when I’d walk into a big box retailer and then walk out with something.

Not that I know of.
I also received a new(ish) computer today. Nothing quite as high tech as a Surface 3. I needed a laptop to take to my fantasy baseball draft and run some Excel spreadsheets during the auction draft and I needed a laptop to run some gray market automobile software diagnostic software/hardware to be able to tweak my cars' computer settings and didn't want to use my work laptop for these tasks. I took a chance and bought a refurbished Lenovo T410. It looks brand new. Brand new in 2010 it cost $1700. I paid $135. It's heavy and clunky but should get the job done with Windows 7.

When I owned one, I knew someone who was a veteran of the Vietnam War who was involved with a main frame at headquarters. I asked him what the RAM was on the computer and he said 16K (which is what the computer on the lunar landers had). I asked him "Do you mean my Commodore 64 had 4 times the computing ability of the main frame used during the war?". He said "yes".
I just picked up a new home pc system last night from Best Buy. Bought a Lenovo (IBM) tower with 8GB RAM, Intel Core i5 processor and 1TB Hard Drive. Came with Windows 10 and Edge browser. I paired it up with a 24 inch Dell computer monitor. Looks and runs great but I'm not really impressed with the Edge browser. I'll probably switch to Mozilla or Chrome in the future. The tower was $599 plus tax. The monitor was 179.99 plus tax.
