My review of Du-pars pancakes

My review....

Sorry, Du-Pars pancakes aren't nearly as good as all the hype. Most greasy spoon cafes make almost the same thing. If you want some high quality pancakes downtown head over to Eat (7th and Carson.)
I had them a couple of years ago with the LVA coupon. They certainly are large. I'm used to IHOPs silver dollar pancakes. These things are dinner dish sized, and I believe I got three of them.
I was less than impressed with the service. I asked for extra butter and the waitress said it comes with plenty, not to worry. I ordered a medium orange juice that was pretty expensive and a glass of water.
She comes with the pancakes, no extra butter and water only. I remind her I ordered an OJ and she tells me it will be up in a couple of minutes. Evidently thye hand squeeze it. I ask about the extra butter and it appears that I offended her mother or something, the look she gives me. I had shown her the coupon so I imagine she thought she would be getting 15% of nothing as a tip. Its crowded, but there are empty tables and its not rush hour or anything. She brings me a few packs of butter and then my OJ, which they serve at room temperature. I like mine cold so I ask for some ice. She took more than her time getting it.
I'm not the biggest pancake fan, but they were good and very very filling. With the OJ and her tip, it cost me a little over $8. Almost what a downtown buffet would run.
I'm in no hurry to go back., but I did like the look of the room.
I like DuPar's and the people that work there. Not getting the pancakes again, though. Too big and filling.

that does sound like some crappy service. it happens too often if you are a solo diner, especially with a coupon. they don't want to be bothered. if you don't bring a party of six, you deserve to starve to death I guess. a professional would never do that to a solo diner. tip accordingly.
Nothing will make you feel lethargic and depressed faster than eating a pancake. It's sugar, that you can slather in more sugar. I need protein
I have seen and received some really bad service in Dupar's. Of course most of the time I get really great service. Probably true just about everywhere.

Over the last couple of years I have significantly increased my visits to Vegas and usually stay at GG, enough so that most of the staff recognize me. I tip fairly and am usually treated well. There is one particular waiter though....I obviously have offended him in some way. Once when my wife was with me she asked for a different waiter when he came to the table. He didn't bat an eye, acted like it happened all the time. We got great service from a different server.

When I have a $10-$15 coupon, my tip starts out at $5 and is adjusted up or down according to attitude.
The only time I've ever stiffed any server was a few years back in the El Cortez. I had a ten dollar voucher and service was horrendous. Twice she reminded me that the tip wasn't included. Second time I told her I tip based on service., of which I hadn't gotten any. I forget the details but she loused up the meal and was unpleasant.
E.I. has a late night burger basket- burger, fries and a soft drink for $5. I cant believe how many people leave change as a tip. Eighty cents, if they are lucky. My meals are comped but I still leave $5.
DuPars is alright if you can get it comped or discounted. I find it a little overpriced otherwise. There's lots of places that serve up good pancakes at a more reasonable price. The best thing at DuPars IMO is the fresh squeezed OJ.
I do agree that pancakes need to be an occasional treat. They certainly aren't health food.

I have been meaning to try EAT for years.
