My visit to the Moulin Rouge Trailer Casino

A few weeks back, I had heard about the upcoming Moulin Rouge trailer casino and noted it on my calendar as I had always wanted to check one of these out. Why? I guess the better question is why not? It's a novelty that doesn't happen every day and this was my chance to experience it.

The event was taking place for 8 hours only, 6am-2pm and certainly wasn't going to get up early for this event. I left my house about 10 and was approaching the area around 10:30. Although I've lived in Las Vegas for years, this is an area of town I'm not real familar with and as you can tell by the pictures, there's not a whole lot of development there.

I than passed whats left of the Moulin Rouge develpment (which isn't much after recent fires)

And than straight ahead was my destination, the Moulin Rouge trailer casino

I parked the car, got out and walked towards the front of the building. I wasn't 100% sure this was it until I saw the new marquee they must have invested at least $20 into.

I walked inside and knew right away this wasn't your typical casino. No table games, No cocktail servers, No coffee shop, Not even a chair to sit in when you play. Just a line of machines for you to stand and play.

As I walked up a machine in the middle of the row, I was the only player in the casino at the time. A slot attendant approached and I of course had to ask him if I could get a Moulin Rouge players club card. I thought it was funny, but he said they had about 40 players throughout the morning and about 30 asked the same question.

I was also told that if I did cash out, make sure it was a whole dollar amount as they had no change to dispense (I wonder if this legal with Nevada gaming laws?).

I grabbed a machine in the middle of the row and it offered both nickel and quarter video poker with a selection of 6 games. I didn't spend anytime perusing pay tables as I wasn't going to be here long and didn't care to find the best value. I put in $20, selected deuces wild bonus poker and away we go!

While I was playing, a couple other players did come in to try their luck.

Also, the news crew for the NBC affiliate came by and interviewed one of the Moulin Rouge executives. The exec claimed that they are planning to redevelop the property and open a new resort within 24 months (good luck with that....I don't ever see it happening). I didn't get a photo of the reporter as I didn't want to photobomb the report (although I appeared in their report that night), here's a photo of the cameraman taking some external shots afterwards.

My $20 was rapidly disappearing and I was down to my last 5 credits when I hit this.....

I played one more hand and lost to get my credits down to an even $30 and cashed out and with a $10 profit. It wasn't a royal, but it was at least enough to pay for my gas to get there and part of my lunch for the day.

As I walked out, it appears that several others were arriving at that time to try their luck in the trailer....

I had to go to the bathroom but I examined the facilities and decided I'd wait til I got to something which smelled a bit better.

Lastly, I decided to grab a shoot of the vacant land where this incredible new resort will be developed. In two years, this property should look a lot different than this (my guess is the weeds will be a lot taller)

I'm not sure when or where the next trailer casino will be....but I hope to be there for it and hope to win even more next time around!
HAHA, that's great, down to the last hand and hit a royal(I'm not a VP player and you mention that wasn't a royal, how come, just'cause it's not a natural?). Anyway, I enjoyed reading about your little jaunt to the MR trailer, pretty cool

J
Report nicely done. Thanks. Good job on the Royal with Deuces.
Great trip report! I'm guessing no pool either.

I believe they open these once a year to keep up their gaming license.

No problem and no club with bottle service either. Wouldn't want to go in that neighborhood for an after hours club anyways.....its a little dicey in the hood after dark.

It's actually every 24 months. Station Casinos have a couple properties on Boulder Highway they do this at, the owners of the lot at LV Blvd and Sahara (where Holy Cow Brewery used to be) and a few other spots do the same thing.
The Pioneer downtown still has some slot machines on the closed casino floor. That area is opened for 8 hours every 2 years to keep that unlimited gaming license alive.
Different kind of TR thanks. I also would count that as a Royal just not a natural one.

And they might have tried to charge a Resort Fee to use one.
