NCIS Choices of Locations

I've wondered since they came out with NCIS Los Angeles, why LA and not San Diego where there are actually Navy and Marine bases. LA has none.

The last couple of episodes have me more thoroughly befuddled since LA has four field agents, granted one is an LA cop on loan with, Heddy and two to three computer geeks supporting them in a lavish "office".

Now turn to the setting of the NOLA NCIS office. Barren, no support staff, only two agents until one transfers in. And then there's the location.

Gibbs and his crew have their office on a Naval facility, with gate security, a lab and a coroner.

The NOLA NCIS office is in a barn in the French Quarter with no security except for an access code keypad.

It's across the river from a fully functioning Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base which has according to Wiki the following:

"NAS JRB New Orleans is home to the 159th Fighter Wing, USCG Air Station New Orleans, a Marine Corps Reserve unit as well as other US Navy & US Army activities. The base has a 24/7 operating schedule to support both the 159th FW's NORAD air defense/homeland security requirements and for Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans search and rescue/maritime law enforcement missions."

I've flown into that base and it it about a half to 45 minutes drive into the French Quarter. But aren't half of the original NCIS's cases in VA far from where they're stationed?

I guess the French Quarter makes for better stories, more excitement and it's what most people think about when they hear New Orleans.

But I can't believe that the new resident genius of NCIS , Bishop, has never heard of the party that happens in the French Quarter.
NCIS - LA seems to have become an anti-terrorism unit.

The New Orleans episodes seemed to be an attempt to do a spinoff, not sure if there is enough plot potential there though.

Remember that NCIS is actually a spinoff from JAG.
It's Hollywood, it's made for TV.
Blade, I understand it fictionalized for TV.

Hoops, I had also heard they were going to spin off an NCIS NOLA show. It's just that how many spin offs can be realistic and profitable for Hollywood.

Look at the Law & Order and CSI spin-offs which I really liked, but they were at least believable in the site locations.

NCIS LA seems to be more of a terrorist battling group, but wouldn't that fall under homeland security instead of NCIS?

During my Navy career, I actually spent a couple of years as an NIS agent (before they got their hand slapped for their counter intellence activites and got changed to NCIS). To me the entire series is a joke!
They certainly play fast and loose with reality.

In all of these crime shows, you see investigators show up to a crime scene in designer clothes?

But it is television.
"In all of these crime shows, you see investigators show up to a crime scene in designer clothes?"

Except Columbo
When I worked out of the HQ at the Navy Yard in DC, the head honcho (Director) was an Admiral (followed by a Marine General)...can you picture desinger outfits getting by them. Actually I can only remember 1 attractive female agent (of course, there were very few female agents back then)...obviously more eye candy there now according to TV.
I was happy with whatever Ziva wore

Now that I think about it I never seen Chief Dan Mathews in designer clothes either.
