i dont know why this would bother me.

The irony of Money's 200% certainty is not lost of the mathematicians here.

Who says we're discussing math? How long is a "long term" relationship?

Is that a long term Hollywood relationship, or a relationship between "normal" people?

Most people don't think about the math when they go into a casino any more than when they go to see a movie. If they did, then they would be looking at the cost of the movie compared to the length of the movie to calculate the cost per minute for movie watching and go with the movie where the viewer has the best edge. They would calculate the odds of getting to see an action movie over the romance movie, and getting a short term relationship to last to being enough of a long term relationship in order to getting close to a 100% return of the money invested in the date.

Most people go to the casino for fun, so terms like edge, odds, short term, and long term will have entertainment oriented meanings rather than mathematical ones.

This is the most sense you've made all day.

Kaypea for someone whoc claims to be a recreational player you've spent a lot of time on a math and strategy discussion???

Question for you: when dealt a flush with four to the royal, how do you play it? Please explain. I am curioous if as a recreational player you would do something the "math guys" wouldn't do? I wonder if you might go for the sure thing of holding the flush?

I like math and strategy. I've read and studied books on strategy for different casino games. I've practiced using the simulators. I've written my own computer simulation software. I've designed my own strategy cards. I've looked back and decided that was too much like work and vacations are supposed to be about fun. In the end I bought a strategy card at the gift shop for $1 and prop it against my drink. Winning is getting another drink before I have to feed the machine again.

I look at the strategy card that's always propped up against my drink and follow whatever it says. It says to go for the royal. This makes sense as you can throw away the 30 credits for the flush 46 times, losing 1380 credits, which is far short of the 4000 credits you'll win that 47th time. And that's not even counting the times that you'll hit another flush, or a straight, and even high pair.

How dull is that?

DonDiego proposes a vote on the title, . . . and has some nominees:

__Through the Looking Glass (And What Frank Found There)

__À la recherche du temps perdu [In Search of Lost Time]

__The Hindenburg Address

Any other nominations before the vote is called?

Something strange just happened here.
Where'd that quote come from?

Ahh Kaypea, with that beautiful Golden Retriever avatar there's no way I can ever be mad at you. They have always been my favorite dog. I had one named Ruff as a kid.

Now try to understand the difficulty of trying to analyze a system that contains subjective elements and personal definitions of mathematical terms based on one's individual entertainment???...???

Kapish? (Not doable)

We use the technical definitions to any mathematically related terms or else we don't get it done....ever!

Well gosh if you're going to go there let's just call it:

Sisyphus's Lament

Nearly at the top and so far I've stayed moss free.

(To be serious for a moment: Rob spent a good chunk of his life on this and even if we can't agree with his conclusions I at least appreciate his effort and conviction.)
