Nevada Senate Votes "Aye" on Raiders Relocation

"The Nevada Senate on Tuesday amended and passed a bill raising room taxes in Clark County to help fund a domed stadium and convention center improvements in Las Vegas.

Senators approved Senate Bill 1 on a vote of 16-5, clearing the 14-vote threshold needed to pass a tax increase. The bill now moves to the Assembly.

The bill would boost the room tax rate by 0.88 of a percentage point to finance $750 million in general obligation bonds over 30 years. Adelson has pledged $650 million; the Raiders have committed $500 million."

This may be the first tax I've ever been in favor of.
I'd like to see them lose the Raiders name and go with something else.
I don't think that is a realistic option. The Raider logo sells. Most teams that have moved- the Rams, the Colts kept the name. When Cleveland moved to Baltimore, it was with the understanding they would leave the Browns name for an expansion team.

How 'bout "The Rat Pack".
Then they could retain all their fans.

Apparently the "lasvegasaces.com" domain name is owned by the MGM Resorts. Pr'bly means nothing.
I must say that my friend did use the same argument I have against paid parking to make a point on this issue. Vegas is different from other cities. Other cities use public funding to stimulate the local economy by building stadiums. However as Vegas, we don't need extra incentives for tourist. We get millions every week. So needing to entice billionaires to build where they are guaranteed a profit already isn't really necessary. That being said, hands down the stadium will pay for itself very quickly. Thus, the problem with paying for the parking at mgm. You have an exclusive guaranteed audience. My hope is they are smart enough to make it the best because our potential is limitless. My only other problem is I really don't want raiders fans or logos either. Say what you will they have a large demographic that aren't Boy Scouts. The nba had many issues when they were allowed in Vegas and that was a horrible weekend crime wise. I would hope they would do some revamping and pr work. Believe it or not, Vegas is a pretty mild place to live and if you don't want to participate in "sin city" it is pretty pg and safe. We don't have a true "city". Might be the lack of a subway or el. People stay in their suburbs. The strip is for tourist.
I don't think there would ever be any intention to change the name. If Las Vegas is to have an NFL team, the Raiders are hands down the best team. I keep on hearing how the city population isn't large enough to support an NFL team. I disagree. First of all, I would think that the hotels will snap up most of the luxury suites. I can see people coming to town from the Bay area, Southern California, Northern Nevada, and perhaps Arizona to see the games. Those people will mean more hotel rooms being booked and all of the other revenue items that take place for events.

The great thing is Jerry Jones gave his blessing, so I think many of the other owners will approve it.

The only stick in the mud is Goodell. He recently made a quote that he thought something could still be worked out with Oakland. Goodell has a hard-on to get an NFL team in London and to have a Super Bowl played there. I hope he fails on both. When teams lose a home game because they have to play in London, it costs cities a lot of revenue. It also wreaks havoc on the players who have to travel there to play.
If things are so rosy for Las Vegas casino owners, then why are the two largest casino chains broke?

Goodell didn't seem optimistic that the league would ok the move.

Ahh, . . . a negative opinion on the Raiders potential move to "The City of Schools and Churches":

"Las Vegas is about to get robbed, and the version of 'Ocean’s Eleven' pulling off this heist is masquerading as elected officials and local press.

After having MGM Grand (which already operates the Grand Garden Arena in town) and sports conglomerate Anschutz Entertainment Group build T-Mobile Arena, pick up the entire tab and woo a National Hockey League expansion team, Las Vegas is about to watch its legislature make off with $750 million in tax dollars and hand it to a casino operator and, potentially, a National Football League franchise owner."
