The new $15 hr fast food cashier

But it doesn't cost 15 bucks an hour. I would find it to believe that nobody would see this coming.

[pic was about 5x the page size so I took it down. It's just like any other touchscreen kiosk, like at a sheetz or similar]

"McDonald's is rolling out self-service kiosks in restaurants across the US that allow customers to order and pay for their food without ever having to interact with a human.

The touch-screen technology is meant to speed up the ordering process and give people more control over customizing their food, while reducing opportunities for human error, according to the company.

Some people suspect that the technology is also meant to eventually replace staff as McDonald's franchisees start to worry about rising labor costs..."

This is pretty laughable

"..The fast-food chain denies that. McDonald's spokeswoman Lisa McComb says cashiers will still be taking orders..."

I have seen automation and robotics coming for many years and try to mention it on every minimum wage thread. In 10-20 years they'll be doing all the dirty work that 'Americans won't do'....and a lot of others we don't mind doing. I hope all the people making minimum wage or in jobs with repetitive tasks are preparing themselves for that day.

In 10-to-20 years DonDiego will welcome the arrival of mankind's mechanical friends. In 10-to-20 years DonDiego will welcome just 'bout anything, . . . 'specially somebody to do the dirty work.

I have used kiosks to buy groceries, train tickets, metro cards & check in @ the airport. My train station no longer has someone to sell tickets. The ticket office is now a Starbucks. So it is not a big stretch to use them for fast food purchases. There are Mickey D's by me that now have 8 people taking orders. With kiosks that could easily go to 2
That "bot" needs a spanking.

DonDiego remembers dining in one of the Horn & Hardart Automats, somewhere in downtown Philadelphia. It might've been after a trip to the zoo or on a Christmas excursion, . . . the family didn't get to Philadelphia very often.
Little DonDiego was pr'bly around 10 or 12 and fascinated by all the little windows in front of the food. He wondered why every restaurant didn't operate this way; it was so cool to just go get whatever one wanted.
