There are 2 problems with this. The democrats and cbo are double counting. They have taken the cuts $500b? and reduced the projected medicare deficit. At the same time they took the money and counted as savings in obamacare. They have done the same with saving money in medicare/medicaid fraud.

THe second problem is that congress did not need a 2,000 page bill to do this

This is exactly correct. More info here.

“The Democrats' health care law is a budget-buster. Misleading claims on its deficit impact exclude the $115 billion needed to implement the law and over $500 billion in double-counting Social Security payroll taxes, CLASS Act premiums, and Medicare reductions,” said Ryan in a statement.

“The CBO can only provide a score based on the assumptions that are given to them. And if you go back and look at the health care bill, and the assumptions that were given to them, you see all of the double counting that went on. You see the fact that the ‘doc-fix’ wasn't even part of the bill,” said Boehner.

I notice that nobody on the left here as actually addressed the highly relevant point that this bill uses 10 yrs of revenue to offset 6 yrs of expenses, and lo and behold, we have a bill that saves us money! Good for us. Now if only we can get Beijing to let us pay back our debt using the same math.
And one more thought: Malib is exactly right - it's not going anywhere until 2012, when the GOP takes back the Senate (a 9 inch gimme putt) and maybe the white house (50/50).

Until then it's political theatre to a) satisfy the Tea Party-types, b) keep the issue in front of Americans as a leadup to that time, and c) to provide Americans a real choice in Nov 2012. It's never been clearer to a potential voter about how their vote will impact their lives.

Edit to add: and the lives of the future generations, who are certainly the ones who will suffer more, as our finances spiral out of control and healthcare scarcities are created.
Another factoid about the bill. It does not allow any new physician owned hospitals, nor does it allow expansion of those currently operating.
